offramp: Yesterday, on a chess Newsgroup a general challenge was issued:<"Name a player whose surname is composed of what appear to be cognates
of the words for both King and Queen.
That's all for now. More tips and clarifications to follow, as needed
Which they probably will be, seeing as you are all pigmies before the
intelletural gigantism of Jason "Size-is-Everything" Repa.">
[I have strong suspicions that 'Jason "Size-is-Everything" Repa' is not the same person as Jason Repa.]
So I had a go (this entire exchange is easily found on Google):
<"Royal Goode>," I wrote.
That was wrong, and I got the response:
<"OK, let me clarify a little then.Remember, it's the surname (so Royal Goode obviously doesn't cut it).
The name is composed of what seem to be cognates of words for the chess
pieces. Clue: the Queen is not actually a Queen.
Don't think about the English words. Think of names for the chess
pieces.
Ha!">
To which I replied - (predictably, since this is where I have posted the response:
<"Josef Rejfir.">
Jason Repa replied:
<"Well, well, well. Congratulations. You are now entitled to join me in
the Olympian ranks of innerlectural giants.
Either that, or the question was easier than I'd thought.
Your prize is in the mail.">
I think he got a big shock that his toughie was answered within a day!
I wonder what the prize will be?
More importantly... What if the sender of the quiz was paranoid? What if he thought that I was a Freemason? Will I ever get that prize?
