Peligroso Patzer: Gordon had a nice win today in the British Championships on the Black side of a Najdorf Sicilian against pre-round tournament leader GM Jacob Aagaard to pull even with him for a share of first. They will likely be joined for a share of the lead by IM Stewart Haslinger, who seems headed for a draw against Kosten.
Aug-09-07   GBKnight: In fact Kosten squeezed a win against Haslinger, so its Gordon and Aagaard leading going into the last round, although they have already played. A good chance for either of them to win it outright, but I expect to see some last round draws...
Aug-10-07   Ezzy: I'm rooting for Gordon to win it. He lives only 10 miles from me. A lancashire lad (from Oldham).

Haslinger is also a Lancashire lad (from Formby)

Yes, my posting from yesterday proved once again the wisdom of Sam Goldwyn's admonition: "Be very careful when making predictions, especially about the future." Once Haslinger played 51. ... axb4 (allowing Kosten to reply 52. cxb4 obtaining connected passed pawns on the a- and b-files) White was winning. (I wonder if Haslinger could have held with 51. ... Kd6.)

Gordon looks like he has a good chance to win this position against Kosten. Aargaard looks to be winning now against Flear, so Gordon needs to win to share first place.

Aug-10-07   GBKnight: Aagaard won against Flear, but Stephen could not quite win after Kosten got tremendous counterplay and had to take a draw, but still a very creditable 2nd place with Rowson.
