Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-14-04  Vischer: On the kibitzing on the Alexander (Nenashev) Graf page, some people said Kramnik's real name is Sokolov, but he changed his name to Kramnik. This isn't him is it?
Apr-14-04  BiLL RobeRTiE: This guy seems a bit older than Kramnik.
Apr-15-04  Vischer: good point. Kramnik was born in '75 I think.
Apr-15-04  Lawrence: <Vischer>, Kramnik's grandfather was named Sokolov. He died when his son, Vladimir's father, was a boy. Grandma married again and Vlad's father, still just a boy, took the surname of his new stepfather, Kramnik. So Vlad's father was born Sokolov but changed his name to Kramnik. Vlad was never named Sokolov, hence didn't change his name.
Mar-14-07  Marmot PFL: Is this guy still alive and living in California?
Dec-14-08  whiteshark: He is married with Henrijeta Konarkowska Sokolov
Feb-28-09  WhiteRook48: how could Kramnik be Solokov?
Oct-31-15  zanzibar: There seem to be absolutely no photographs of this player to be found on the internet.

Amazing if true...

I did come across a photograph with what I believe is a most beautiful Serbian chess set:

May-01-20  MacCathey: Wonder if he is related to the Russian American actor of the same name. He was in a movie with Edward G. Robinson and Joan Bennet. Scarlet Street.
