Sep-19-14
 | | Troller: Caruana is playing Robin Swinkels today, with his current form that seems almost like a walkover. Other interesting matches: Sergey Karjakin vs Shakhriyar Mamedyarov Veselin Topalov vs Alexander Grischuk Alexey Shirov vs Michael Adams All from the top match between SOCAR and Malakhite. Further down two top French GMs are clashing for their Spanish and Swiss teams: Romain Edouard vs Christian Bauer |
Sep-19-14 | | waustad: The website for the tournament is not up at the moment. Considering how it has gone so far, maybe having somebody working on it is probably a good thing. |
Sep-19-14 | | waustad: From looking at the video, the chairs they are using look a lot like one of the reasons I quit playing tournaments. I'd probably be in traction after sitting on one of them for 5 or 6 hours. |
Sep-19-14 | | Strongest Force: Fab already has sprinkles on Swinkles. |
Sep-19-14 | | Pulo y Gata: Someone might pull a swinkle on Caruana. |
Sep-19-14 | | achieve: Caruana brushed aside Swinkels, and Giri outplayed Malakhov. Someone said Giri's live rating puts him at number 9 in the world? the kid <is> in fact making a decisive move now to join the elite and continues to move up; exciting! |
Sep-19-14 | | chessvcr: Anish giri have some india connection? |
Sep-19-14 | | jamesmaskell: <chessvcr> Not India but his father is Nepalese. |
Sep-19-14 | | achieve: Yes - or Nepalese, to be more precise. lives in Holland now, and according to the updated Live list at Chessvibes.com Giri is now ahead of Karjakin, 7 in the world, at 2768! The promise was there a few years ago, but now Giri is motoring ahead, still 2 years younger than Caruana, who was at this rating level some 18 months ago only. Giri will likely join Caruana and Carlsen in a couple of years, and Grischuk must not be forgotten, plus an in-form Aronian, the great Kramnik, and a superb top 6 we have there... Any for Anand still in there in say 2016? Anyways, nice to see another youngster like Giri pushing through now. |
Sep-19-14 | | Octavia: Adams won against Shirov in 120 moves! great endgame ! |
Sep-19-14 | | Rolfo: We are seeing a change coming with the new generation really knocking hard on the door while Carlsen already walked in. At the same time the veterans are yielding ground but have not surrendered yet |
Sep-19-14 | | achieve: And Kramnik hasn't even reached 40 yet.... Levon and Gris in their early 30s, it really is just Anand who is pushing 45. And Adams? He had a great Olympiad, turning 43 in november... |

member boz: <notyetagm> He's still young so that could change overnight but, yes, Aronian has definitely slipped. Still super strong, of course, but missing the finer edge.>Facial surgery may be having an effect. |

36. Li Chao
37. Wang Hao
38. Wang Yue
39. Bu Xiangzhi

Sep-19-14 | | Wavy: While Giri has played on two major tournaments (Olympiad and ECC), his main rival, Wesley So, didn't have any games during those times. They could have been neck and neck in the ratings had he been playing like Giri does. Anyway, Wesley will be a great addition to the American team soon! |
Sep-20-14 | | achieve: If Wesley So had played in those competitions he might easily have lost points, you never know, especially if you do not play in them. Giri played the Spanish Honor Division Team Championship, in Linares btw, and currently the ECCC is on the menu. SOCAR won that, with Giri on 4th board. |
Sep-20-14 | | achieve: Carlsen, Caruana, Karjakin, MVL, Giri, So, Ding liren, perhaps Richard Rapport, still very young, but that is the group born 1990 or later to challenge to take top (10) spots over the next few years, 5 of those in fact already top 10 on the live list. The excitement is palpable. Gelfand will probably still be playing and giving the young guns a run for their money when he is 63. Wang Hao belongs in the Top 10 as well imo, but my opinion doesn't get him any rating points, clearly. |
Sep-20-14 | | Strongest Force: Fab gonna teach carjack how to really steal some cars: "Crooklyn style." |
Sep-20-14
 | | chancho: Fab's results (as of late) since the Olympiad:
16 wins / 1 loss / 7 draws.
The loss was to Carlsen at the Olympiad. |
