i know that game and it's quite intersting since capa goes on playing (against saemisch so why ahould he resign against mary bain??) and makes saemisch work hard for his win. |

Mary Bain was the co-ordinator of a program in 11 south-eatern US States that had wounded US soldiers play chess as part of their rehabilitation, as part of her role as the southeatern area director of the US Chess Federation. The article also mentions that Mary was the husband of Leslie Balogh Bain, a Daily News columnist. |

There was another book that went into detail about NYC's fun years of game halls and chess hustlers, before the explosion in real estate vaules killed all non essential endeavors. It might have been Bill Hook's "Hooked on Chess", or maybe a book by Larry Evans. 14th Street had game clubs, as well as Times Square. I was at Brighton Beach last week, during this hot weather. This is part of a long beach, that connects Coney Island with the Russian/Ukrainian area of Brighton Beach. Saw just one game of chess, two guys playing a slow game on the boardwalk. I would have thought there might be a bit more of the royal game being played. |
