offramp: That is very sad news. I hope her family are okay. It’s a very young age to die.
Apr-03-19  Messiah: Very sad news. She must have been a charming personality and a great player.

WannaBe: Good grief!! =(( Such a young age...
Apr-03-19  whiteshark: Ruhe in Frieden!
Apr-03-19  waustad: Sad news indeed. Some years ago I was in need of a project and started looking at some chess players. Two I found interesting were Eva Moser and Viktoria Cmylte, with their attacking style. Since I read a little German I picked Ms Moser’s games to work through. I’ve probably played through all of her games that I was able to find on the net. RIP
Apr-03-19  Count Wedgemore: <waustad: Two I found interesting were Eva Moser and Viktoria Cmylte, with their attacking style.>

Yes, she played many fine, attacking games. Like this one:

E Moser vs V Schneider, 2013

Never mind king safety, just go for the attack, rushing the kingside pawns forward! A fine attacking player indeed.

Very sad to hear of her passing.

Apr-03-19  sonia91: That's shocking news... she was only 36, RIP :(
Apr-03-19  Aurora: Hvíli hann í friði.

Apr-03-19  diagonal: R.I.P. Eva Moser

In 2003, Eva Moser gained the Women Grandmaster (WGM) title, in 2004, she achieved the International Master (IM). The same year she played on board one for Austria in the open / men section during the Chess Olympiad in Calvia. At the Austrian Championship 2006, she became the absolute Austrian Champion.

Arguably her biggest success in individual international adult competitions was winning the closed <Augsburg Tournament> (Senator Max Gutmann Memorial), held in December 2013 / January 2014:

With ten participants in a round robin, Eva Moser, the only woman, won the tournament outright with 7.5 points in 9 games, and claimed a male GM norm. She left several grandmasters behind her, performing almost Elo 2700 in that event.

There was much popular acclaim in german, austrian, and swiss Chess bulletins: http://www.schachklub-göggingen.de/... ("Chapeau, Eva!")

For instance, she was on the front cover of the <Schach-Magazin 64> (founder and editor-in-chief is Otto Borik). In an interview (scroll down in the linked PDF) after her tournament win at Augsburg, she named Richard Rapport as her chess idol, and was full of plans.

At the beginning of the year 2015, Eva Moser had to stop playing tournament chess: https://www.trauerhilfe.at/todesanz... (Todesanzeige)

HeMateMe: a sad end. I thought medical science was conquering WBC cancer. New drugs seemed to be turning the tide on this.

perfidious: <HMM>, progress has been made, actually--a generation ago, leukaemia was a death sentence, whilst now the adult form has a five-year survival rate of roughly sixty per cent, with juvenile types of the disease at 80-85 per cent.
Apr-04-19  notyetagm: So sad.

RIP

Apr-04-19  Eastfrisian: To young, R.I.P.
Feb-12-20  waustad: This year the Austrian Championships, open and women’s sections, will be in Graz and will serve as a memorial to Eva Moser.
Mar-24-21  Margetic D: I am immensely sorry to find out this (just now, by chance?)... I knew Eva, we palyed for a while for the same chess club in Graz and we talked last time 2005 (if i remembered well). Because of my health problems i had to retire in December 2004. She was a real lady,i loved her personality and she will always stay to be a lady.
May-10-24  waustad: There is a nice biographical sketch of her with coverage of a memorial tournament (in German) at: https://de.chessbase.com/post/ein-g...
