Apr-21-05 | | lopium: I don't know, i guess a Greek person. |
Apr-21-05 | | gadfly: His name is typically Georgian and yes, he is Georgian, not Greek. |

 | | WTHarvey: Here are some win and mate puzzles from Tamaz's games: http://www.wtharvey.com/gela.html |
Apr-23-05
 | | keypusher: Thanks <WTHarvey>. This guy evolves the most amazing attacks from the strangest openings . . . |
Apr-23-05
 | | keypusher: <WTHarvey> in your first puzzle white is missing a rook on h3 -- no wonder I couldn't figure it out! |
Apr-23-05
 | | WTHarvey: <keypusher> Thanks for the tip. I've editted the diagram and credited you. Much obliged! :-) |
Apr-23-05 | | Helloween: A thorough study of this man's games will show many examples of unbridled attacking creativity, particularly against the castled Kingside. He is a very risky and almost cautionless player. |
Jan-22-06 | | dakgootje: He looks quite young on the picture... |
Feb-02-06 | | itz2000: How old is he? |
Feb-02-06
 | | keypusher: My hero! Here's an example of how he plays. Yelena Dembo gives quite a good account of herself too. Y Dembo vs T Gelashvili, 2004 |
Mar-19-07 | | James Bowman: He plays b3 against the sicilian very well the Snyder variation, I have used it with pretty good results on ICC, its funny how often a long pause happens after 1.) e4...c5 2.) b3 tic toc tic toc. ;o] |
Apr-08-10 | | wordfunph: Tamaz with peak rating of 2623 and currently sporting a 2621.. he's 32 years old today.. |
Aug-04-10 | | cjgone: He plays an interesting alternative to the standard sicilian with b3. |

 | | kingfu: I previously suggested that the B20 Sicilian be named after Moshe Czerniak instead of the convicted child molester Snyder, may he rot in HELL. Perhaps, it should be re-named after this Grand Master who has played it more than anybody! And , by the way, is PLUS 44 with it!
Anybody out there PLUS 44 with ANY opening? Anybody?
From now until the end of time , for me, this opening will be known as the CG! Czerniak-Gelashvili opening. And I will play it! Death to the Sicilian! |
Aug-07-11 | | Jambow: Tommy boy has been real active in the U.S. I think he has taken up residence here. At the U.S. open in Orlando he is listed as playing for New York, fourth player in the standings. http://www.alchess.com/chess/11/uso... |
Aug-07-11 | | Jambow: He used 1.e4...c5 2.b3 three times in the U.S. open alone so Czerniak-Gelashvili variation it is. |
May-10-13
 | | kingfu: Now Tamaz is +53 with the B20. |
May-10-13
 | | keypusher: <kingfu: Now Tamaz is +53 with the B20.> Definitely a case of the player making the opening and not the other way around. He inspired me to try it. Let's just say I am no Tamaz Gelashvili. |
May-10-13
 | | kingfu: The way to do it is going over ALL of Tamaz with the B20. I am working on a survey now. Pretty soon there will be no reference to S...... evilboy with respect to this opening. |
Nov-27-15 | | jerseybob: <keypusher: <kingfu: Definitely a case of the player making the opening and not the other way around> Right! I've always believed that. Witness Naka with his Qh5 fetish. |
Nov-27-15 | | Jambow: I use the B20 fianchetto against the Sicilian exclusively on ICC, almost all blitz games. I attempt to close the center trading light squared B for Nc6 which is often allowed, trapping blacks pieces towards the queenside and breaking with the f pawn and pushing kingside pawns for an attack. Usually blacks light squared bishop ends up being a spectator. I'm only rated 1400ish at 5 minute blitz ICC, but most players at that level are claiming to be 1800 elo, not sure though.
Tomaz tends to play more active and dynamic, but when my king gets loose I get in trouble even in better positions. |
Apr-08-16 | | cunctatorg: I ain't really sure that GM Tamaz Gelashvili is equal to late GM Matulovic with respect to playing strength (Matulovic, at his peak, was a fine player) but he shares some GM Matulovic's (either bad or questionable and not generally amusing!!) tendencies (with respect to classical chess) but only when it comes to rapid chess!... |
Apr-08-16
 | | kingfu: Happy Birthday, GM Gelashvili! Where have you been? No games for over 2 years listed on CG. I read where he was in New York. Anybody have any recent information? |
