WannaBe: I do not know if anyone else have already posted this stat..

U.A. playing white, +286 -48 =605
U.A. playing black, +180 -173 =601

The game record for loss and draw does not match the above over-all record.

WannaBe: <chessgames.com> here is the minor discrepency... (I was looking at the over-all records and number of draws, because <He can be regarded as the all-time drawing master among the top GMs.>

And I found that +466 -218 =1204 adds up to 1888 games, your database shows 1893. Then I did more search and found that draws should show 1206 and loss should show 221. (Win total is correct) Minor, minor detail, only a person with no life (like me) would find that. :-)

chessgames.com: So the discrepancy is 5 games? The answer can be found in the fineprint:

Overall record: +466 -218 =1204 (56.6%)*
* Overall winning percentage = (wins+draws/2) / total games Based on games in the database; may be incomplete. <5 exhibition games, blitz games, etc. are excluded from this statistic>

WannaBe: D'oh, should have read those fine prints... :-)

Thanks for pointing that out. I am throughly embarassed now.

offramp: Looking at his picture it is amazing how *Swedish* he looks. He looks a bit like the two men from Abba sellotaped together and with the beard shaved off.
Jan-09-06  babakova: Spassky was quite the drawmaster too, at least for a world champion. And yeah, Andersson does resemble Björn&Benny.. hehe...
Jan-19-06  SamerAdra: He looks a lot like another Swede, Jan-Ove Waldner, the "Michael Jordan of table tennis."
Jan-25-06  AlexandraThess: He is my favourite player ,even Kramnik has much to learn from Ulf about making draws.
Jan-29-06  waddayaplay: Some find Ulf a dull player, but he is a good example on how to gain a draw without having to study a lot of opening theory.

Of 27 games as black in the feared Keres attack, he only has one loss (Beliavsky vs Ulf Andersson, 1981 ).

Feb-28-06  NimzoKing: Andersson is definately one of the best endgame players in the world.
Mar-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Why did Andersson quit the Cappelle la Grande (2006) tournament after only 1 game?
Apr-17-06  blingice: Apparently he is also #2 in the world for correspondence chess:

http://www.iccf.com/content/index.p...

Apr-18-06  VargPOD: Depressing performance by Mr. Andersson at 7th European Individual Championship (2006)/Ulf Andersson. A win, two nice draws, but what the hell happened then? Missing one game, four consequent under-20-move draws against much weaker opponents and finally quitting the tournament early.

What is happening to Ulf? Health problems? Motivation problems? Has anyone got any info?

Apr-19-06  AlexandraThess: I am afraid that he has problem with his health.I am really concerned about him since he is my favourite player. If anybody has some information please tell us.
Apr-19-06  acirce: Incidentally, I know that Agrest, the current Swedish #1 (since Andersson's declined a lot) DID have to quit the tournament for health reasons. I don't know why Andersson did.
Apr-19-06  iron maiden: Now he seems to have disappeared from the Gausdal field.
Aug-12-06  bob000: Is chessgames going to cover the NH "Youth versus Experience" Tournament. Both Karjakin and Carlsen are playing not to mention several famous players who haven't played since retirement.

Andersson like back in those days. Entering a slightly worse endgame, should have no problem to hold, or at least I hope. It would be great if he shows he can still hold his own even against the young stars.

Aug-19-06  sixfeetunder: Is there a possibility to see live games somewhere?
Aug-19-06  sixfeetunder: Andersson made a draw.
Aug-20-06  suenteus po 147: It seems that Andersson is sporting a beard at this tournament. I wonder how long he has had it?

Also, his game against Smeets is still going, 66 moves in. It seems neither are willing to draw since both players choose to break repetition at key moments in the position.

Aug-20-06  babakova: With that beard he looks a lot like Leif Pagrotsky, I would believe they are about the same height too.
