Dec-12-19  sadosa: I'm now beginning to analyze the games of top rated players. I'm impressed with Carlsen, Ding Liren and Caruana. I hope to see some of their games end up for this year's best game collection.

OhioChessFan: Here's my votes. As always, I typically vote for games that might not be the "best" in the normal sense, but that inspire/amaze/amuse me anyway.

1. A Firouzja vs M Karthikeyan, 2019

9...Qxc3+ is Move of the Year and the game itself gets my vote for Game of the Year.

2. Zhao Jun vs R Preotu, 2019
Beatiful game, vastly underrated, and you have to love the final position. This is a work of art:

3. Ding Liren vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2019

Ding had a lot of great wins this year. This is my favorite.

4. A Goryachkina vs D Harika, 2019

Wow, got to love that Knight dominating the board.

5. J K Duda vs R Rapport, 2019
Calm, even, serene.....not for long. The fireworks go off and the slugfest is on.

6. J Gustafsson vs T Duong, 2019

White shoves his Queen down Black's throat. Vicious attack.

7. Grischuk vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2019

Grischuk shows his endgame chops.

8. Ehlvest vs L Paichadze, 2019

Of course I have to include a Caro-Kann win by Black.

9. D Dubov vs A Giri, 2019

Long castle with no protection.....brilliant. My second favorite move of the year.

10. Karjakin vs Carlsen, 2019

Lest I forget the Champ, here he is, with Black, blasting Karjakin off the board in 30 moves.

Jan-02-20  sadosa: Correction on 8th vote please. Its carlsen who won instead of nepomniachtchi. My apologies.

<OhioChessFan> Thanks for voting!

Jan-04-20  sadosa: Thanks so much Tpstar. I really do appreciate it.
Jan-07-20  Count Wedgemore: Here are my votes for Best Games of 2019:

J K Duda vs R Rapport, 2019 Brilliant finish by Rapport. Have a look at 37...Rc8!!

B Adhiban vs P Maghsoodloo, 2019 A game filled with brilliant tactics and a nice combination in the end.

S Shankland vs J Xiong, 2019 Wildly entertaining game. Not easy to understand what was going on!

Carlsen vs A Giri, 2019 Even though Magnus did not find the most beautiful win (26.Rxg6+), it was still an impressive win, positionally outplaying the haughty Dutchman.

Svidler vs Carlsen, 2019 Another impressive win by the World Champion even though Svidler did not put up his best defense. An interesting game to analyze. Also, check out the kibitzes to this game; a healthy mix of intelligent and idiotic commentary :)

W So vs J K Duda, 2019 Excellent play by Wesley So in a complicated Sicilian Dragon.

Ding Liren vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2019 This game had escaped me until I played through <OCF>'s nominations and I was thoroughly impressed by Ding's play. Our Chinese friend is a genius.

Aronian vs Carlsen, 2019 Best Armageddon game ever? Only a Blitz game, but what a blitz game it was!

Mamedyarov vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2019 Nepo shows what a powerful attacking weapon the KID can be for Black. Nice game.

L Dominguez vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2019 The Cuban-American punishes ruthlessly some slight accuracies by Nepo and wipes him off the board in only 25 moves. 24.Rh1! is a beauty.

OhioChessFan: <Count>, reviewing the games other people submitted is my favorite part of this. Glad you liked the Ding game.
Jan-10-20  FairyPromotion: Hey there everyone!

In 2019 I wasn't able to follow chess as much (after the first 3 months), so thanks to all the lists posted so far. I did some quick digging, and here is my list. Note: I'm really torn this year for my #1 pick, as Karthikeyan's Q sac on move 9 seems to be the most spectacular move of the year. But then, there is this position... try to demolish it a la Adhiban:

click for larger view

1. B Adhiban vs N Grandelius, 2019 - DEMOLITION!

2. A Firouzja vs M Karthikeyan, 2019 - Q-sac of the year.

3. D Gukesh vs Y Kryvoruchko, 2019 - The coolest way to win a queen down: Allowing your opponent to promote to one

4. Wei Yi vs A H T dos Santos Fier, 2019 - Wei Yi = God of Sicilians

5. Radjabov vs V S Gujrathi, 2019 - Radjabov wins with style

6. Ding Liren vs Jakovenko, 2019 - My favorite Ding game. Q vs 2R, beautiful Novotny finish

7. Sasikiran vs C Aravindh, 2019 - Sasikiran crushing the Ruy Lopez

8. V Gunina vs M Sebag, 2019 - Gunina crushing the Sicilian

9. E Safarli vs M Rodshtein, 2019 - Safarli crushing the Caro-Kann

10. Ding Liren vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2019 - One Ding game is never enough.

6) Ding Liren vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2019 Ding exposes a King

7) F Vallejo Pons vs Carlsen, 2019 Magnus Lite

8) Carlsen vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2019 Magnus Heavy Leela-Zero rates this as Magnus’s most accurate win in GRENKE

9) Ngoc Truongson Nguyen vs McShane, 2019 I really enjoyed watching this one live. ( 21...f5!!!) Too bad Luke has a day job.

10) Carlsen vs Ding Liren, 2019 While just a blitz game. spotting the long diagonal counterplay was amazing. From the comments: <mikealando: Liren's blitz immortal(?)>

Why did you have to bring up this stupid game? Not cool!

I suggest a moratorium on nominating games where Carlsen loses. The World Champion deserves some respect :)

Jan-13-20  diceman: <Count Wedgemore:

Blame chessgames.com! :)

I wanted to include this game:

Narciso Dublan vs Bernadskiy | Lorca 2019

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU3...

but it wasn't here.

That would have moved Magnus/Ding to number 11. :)

Jan-15-20  Keyser Soze: Hi there! here my pics

Fighting game

9. Carlsen vs Ding Liren, 2019
