stevemcd87: <Chess.com> seems to have an API that may work for us( https://www.chess.com/news/view/pub... ). It'll take some time to implement but can be extremely useful for future events if it works. I'll keep you posted.

Mar-11-21  Z truth 000000001: Somehow, I think that <Dortmund (1992)> is an unholy mess that should be sorted out.

Lists of gid's should be able to used for merge processing.

And searching on Event and Site should also be allowed.

(And searching should allow gid lists to be harvested to allow editing and utilization in more savy editing tools)

Stonehenge: A major annoyance is getting the wrong game in the games editor. Sometimes even five or six wrong games before it shows the right one. Or it doesn't show anything at all, except a zero. Same with the tid editor, often you get the wrong tournament or just a zero.

stevemcd87: The EventDate has been updated for all games in European Championship (2001) and the Site tag has been updated for all games in World Junior Championship (Boys) (2005), using the new tool that will be available on the editor page soon.
Please allow me another day to look into the issue below.

stevemcd87: The editor page has been updated.
We can now update all Site and EventDate tags in a given tournament.
NOTE: The Site and EventDate that occupies the form input is from the first PGN of the tournament.
Re "wrong edit slip" issue, I've made an update that should reduce the occurrences. It still returns a blank edit form at times but doesn't seem to be returning a different slip anymore.
We are now logging when the issue occurs, I'll keep you posted on progress.
I will begin the tournament merging tool on Monday, sorry for the delay.

Tabanus: You're doing great. These things of course take time, and safety first!

I could not wait however so I merged 5 different tids on a game by game basis into European Championship (2002). I think both me, the reader, and Macieja deserve a standings table ;)

Tabanus: <We can now update all Site and EventDate tags in a given tournament.> For European Championship (2002), I cannot find either of them.

Tabanus: I did. And tried again, all that comes up is

Add Note
TID: 73532
Event Name: European Championship / Update Event Name
Event's Gametype: CLASSICAL / Update Event Gametype
Kibitzing: Update Event Kibitz

Stonehenge: I also have Update Event Site and Update EventDate (sic).

But I'm of course the Most Exquisite Editor of Chessgames himself :)

Mar-14-21

Tabanus: <Stonehenge> On tid = 73532, then perhaps you can update Eventdate to 2002.06.12 for me :)
Mar-14-21
Premium Chessgames Member
Stonehenge: Not sure why you need that but it is done. It's in all the pgns (not that I checked them all), so it worked.

Tabanus: Thanks. The games had different EventDate, most games had 2006.06.11, and some games had no EventDate, or a ?

Since the games come from different sources, the same player also often have different Elos. Sometimes from the April 2002 list, some from the January 2002 list, some from the Georgian national list, and some are without Elo. I suppose it's too much work to standardize them.

Tabanus: I uploaded Magnus Carlsen Invitational (2021) (Day 3) but it was assigned a separate tid. And, unfortunately, 6 games were skipped.

  stevemcd87: Hey <Tab>,
You can try a hard refresh(clears cache from browser) if you don't see the update on your computer. Usually can be done with (shift + f5), (cmd + shift + r) or (ctrl + shift + r).
I've added the 6 games that were skipped and transferred the other games to the correct tournament.
Thanks for the help.

I will be merging the <Dortmund> tourneys soon. Is there a tournament with kibitzing that needs to be merged, for testing purposes?

I will also be adding the ability to add a table to any given tourney, on this upcoming update.

Mar-16-21
Premium Chessgames Member
Tabanus: <Steve> It works now. Maybe you can use the following for testing. The four below should be merged:

European Championship (2003) (1175 games, TI, a little kibitzing)
EU-ch 4th (2003) (7 games, non-TI)
Istanbul Ech (2003) (4 games, non-TI)
EU ch (2003) (1 game, non-TI)

After which I plan to upload round 13, almost all last round games are missing.

Stonehenge: The player editor isn't working properly. Sometimes it works, sometimes all it does is <fetching, ready for edit, editing...> and then it keeps saying <editing...>.

  stevemcd87: Hey <Stone>,
Is the page still acting up for you?
The page seems to be working fine for me.
Some information that would help us debug this type of issue is:
- The time the issue occurred
- The slips or submissions you are trying to open when the issue began

Sorry for the troubles.

stevemcd87: <Tab>, did you want a standing table for European Championship (2003) also?
Or was that just for European Championship (2002) ?

I'm being extremely cautious with the tournament merging tool to ensure it can properly merge all types of tourneys.
Question:
- If the bad tourney has a table and/or kibitzing and the good tourney doesn't, should we update the good tourney to have them? I would think yes, let me know if you can think of a reason why we wouldn't want to.
Thanks for the help!

Tabanus: <Steve> I want standings table for all Swisses and round robins. At least those that I'm working with. I have about 10 sent in as correction slips. European Championship 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003, Hoogovens Group A (1991), Hoogovens Group A (1992), Hoogovens Group A (1994), and Credit Suisse Masters (1994) should have standings table.

The opposite way (list of players) for Corsica Masters (2016), Corsica Masters (2017), European Club Cup (2013) and European Club Cup (Women) (2013), as the standings table on knockouts is meaningless.

Tabanus: Scheveningen events and team events should also have list of players. On simuls ((though not many of those in TI) I'm not sure, ask miss detective Scarlet :)

Annie used to set the default view for me, but none after she left. The Pocal is fine but it is insufficient.

Tabanus: European Championship (2004), European Championship (2005), European Championship (2006), European Individual Championship (2007), European Individual Championship (2008), 10th European Individual Championship (2009) and European Individual Championship (2010) should also have standings table.

12th European Individual Championship (2011) does have it.

Tabanus: I've never had much need for tid merging. Usually there a tid A with lots of games which I give the right name, say Oslo. The other tids B, C, D etc. almost always have few games, I edit Event to Oslo for them (game by game) and they add to the main Oslo tid instead. I have to click on each game anyway to check for round number, date, etc.

The exception is when tid A is already in TI. Then I get the message "FATAL ERROR: YOU CANNOT MODIFY THE EVENT TAG OF A GAME IN THE TOURNAMENT INDEX.".

Tabanus: <The exception is when tid A is already in TI.> In the case of European Championship (2003), I could send in 12 slips to merge the 4 tids.

Do we really need tid merging? If it's risky I mean.

  stevemcd87: Hey <Tab>,
Your comments are extremely helpful.
Do you get the "Fatal Error" message when editing on the editor page or when using another editing tool?
I would like to replicate the error to better understand the restrictions that are already in place.
Thanks for the help.
