 | | MissScarlett: Thanks. Now I have them, I don't know what to do with them. If there's no prospect of <Olga> being updated to show P+2 games properly, I ought to bite the bullet and submit other games in the offending style. Every P+2 game I've seen begins <1. e4 ...
2. d4>. Was this actually prescribed? |

Versus "playing down"? Or maybe "paying up"?
Or is "playing up" the British equivalent to the good old Americanism, "acting up"? . |

You need to leave the ECO field blank when you upload games. <Annie K> told me this several times. |

 | | MissScarlett: < Blackburne vs W A Butler, 1908 :
The game displayed after updating the eco to "000"> But that designates the game as a chess variant. There's no reason it should be listed as King's Gambit. <You need to leave the ECO field blank when you upload games. > I do. This can't be the reason the game went AWOL. |

<MissScarlett> Thanks for posting that info. This can't be good can it... yet another tech glitch with a mysterious cause? On that topic, there were two games I recently uploaded that had not survived the old "date bug" in which the correct date is shown in the published game header, but the editing box below shows a null date: Year 0000, month ?? day ???. Last year <Steven> and I spent a few weeks monitoring this problem until he discovered that the blank editing box did eventually show the correct information after around three hours. But the two uploads I am referring to still did not show the correct information after two full days. I had to manually enter the date information in the editing field. This is a really annoying state of affairs, because it affects the chronological list on a player page. Sure the game header has the correct date information, but if the editing field is left blank, then the game is placed in the player page list at the beginning of every year, instead of in chronological order. This is very irritating, because we want the list to be chronological so that games from the same event will appear in the same time grouping on the player page game list. So let's say the date is October 1933.
Well instead of the game appearing in that slot on the player page list- after September games and before November games- it will be placed in the very first slot in 1933. But the real takeaway here is that we shouldn't have been treating this "three hour delay" of information input as a normal state of affairs in the first place. The cause of the delay should be discovered and fixed. Has the investigation into this glitch stopped? Are we no longer investigating? By "we" I mean the paid techs who are supposed to know how to fix these things. |

 | | MissScarlett: <Last year <Steven> and I spent a few weeks monitoring this problem until he discovered that the blank editing box did eventually show the correct information after around three hours.> Yes, I noticed this, too, but I usually correct it anyway. But, yes, I think I have noticed occasions where it doesn't auto-correct. What about game type? My sense has been that CLASSICAL is the default type (except for odds game), unless you put rapid, simul or blindfold in the event field, which is then automatically detected and assigned accordingly. Or am I dreaming this? |
