stevemcd87: <Chess.com> seems to have an API that may work for us( https://www.chess.com/news/view/pub... ). It'll take some time to implement but can be extremely useful for future events if it works. I'll keep you posted.

MissScarlett: <Today's GotD is highlighted in green, puns will be played in order. After clicking the 'Select Pun for GotD', the pun will be appended to the list below.>

Can't see <Select Pun for GoTD>.

  OhioChessFan: <JFQ: <Ohio> do you mean <MissScarlett>?>

Yes.

<In a rare serious note, I don't think so. Over the past year or so I have gotten some substantial help from her on various projects, and I can report this: although she likes to talk smack, when she gets down to actual cases she is "all bidness.">

Okay.

<She has my vote to get any kind of administrative powers they give her. >

I'd agree except for the one under discussion. And my previously mentioned reason why: <That said, you're a terrible choice to run GotD as your ignorance of American pop culture has in the past, and surely will in the future, cause you to not appreciate great puns.>

<I have 100 percent faith she would not abuse those powers, though she would certainly publicly- and falsely- post that she was abusing those powers.>

I get the 7 days threat was just talk. My response was just talk, although IMHO a fairly accurate estimate.

MissScarlett: I proudly admit to having seen none of these shows:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertai...

But in a bid to test the waters, here are five unbiased candidates for my first selection. Feedback welcome.

1) <Ding Down, Merry Li on High Ding Liren vs Li Chao, 2011 submitted by MissScarlett> Let's save for December 25th!

2) <Beware the Ideas of Martz W Martz vs Miles, 1976 submitted by MissScarlett>

3) <Black Hoek Down

4) <The Not So Great Gadsby Lasker vs A Gadsby, 1908 submitted by MissScarlett>

5) <For Hume the Bell Tolls J J Rousseau vs D Hume, 1765 submitted by MissScarlett>

MissScarlett: I note that 2, perhaps 3, of the nominees owe something to American culture, of which, of course, in the UK, we don't get nearly enough.

  OhioChessFan: 2 & 3 are terrific. 5 is pretty good. 1 & 4 are okay.

Black is KO, inexplicably highly rated in the voting booth, is terrible. Ditto today's pun. 14! people voted positively for a pun nobody gets? Unbelievable.

OhioChessFan: Looking at the top 25 rated puns(curses, Steve, for revealing them), I'd say 8 of them are good quality, numbers 1, 2, 5, 9, 10, 19, 20, 24. Two more are okay, numbers 6 and 21. The other 15 of the top 25 rated are simply bad. OTIH, I saw a string of outstanding puns rated in the 800's. I just don't get it.
Sep-20-21  Z truth 000000001: <OCF> could you please cite a couple of those "outstanding" puns for us? Just to get the idea.

MissScarlett: <Or is that impossible now that the <Olga> creators have gone mental and abandoned their promising viewer, that has turned to crap because they couldn't be arsed to finish building it properly?>

That rather begs the question as to the identity of said developers, and the circumstances under which they parted company with <cg.com>.

Tabanus: <Steve> On https://web.archive.org/web/2012100... I finally found a working link - to the games of Reykjavik Open 1964-2012. My ChessBase can open it. But unfortunately, Meier's round 8 & 9 games (in 2008) are missing also there.

The TWIC games before July 2012 costs 30 pounds. The download seems to have games since TWIC started in 1994? It's not explicitly stated what it contains.

Tabanus: Perhaps if CG bought those games and published them, TWIC would be ruined.

<CG> pretty much ruins the PGN it swipes from TWIC already.

Please don't ruin all the rest of TWIC too.
