May-16-06  acirce: The miraculous point of Carlsen's whole defence is that not even 73..f5 seems to win: 74.Nxf5 Bxf5+ 75.Kb3 Bb1 and then White just moves bishop back and forth because ..Bd4 Bxd4 Kxd4 Kb2 is draw.
May-16-06  cuendillar: <Milanovic-Jovanic> was played yesterday. The B-tournament had only 9 rounds. Most probably it was a draw.
May-16-06  Per: Why are they still playing!?

Gypsy: Well, it did seem that Predojevic was playing this inacurately, but this is stunning save!
May-16-06  acirce: Yes, this is the most surprising and fascinating save I've seen in a long time!
May-16-06  Phi: wow, Carlsen amazes me again and again.
May-16-06  Icyclemort: 74... f5 75. Nxf5 Bxf5+ 76. Kb3 Bb1 77. Ba1 Bf2 78. Bc3 Be1 79. Ba1 Kc6 80. Bd4 Ba5 80. Ba1

But i think this would not have been a draw (f5 a move earlier); at least Rybka think it's makese a difference of 4 pawns

May-16-06  cuendillar: Who's trying to flag who?
May-16-06  awfulhangover: Definition of fighting spirit= magnus
May-16-06  VishyFan: ELO changes
-------------
Nisipeanu 2695 -00.8
Sasikiran 2692 -10.4
Malakhov 2691 -00.2
Naiditsch 2664 -10.8
Carlsen 2646 +07.2
Predojevic 2566 +15.0
May-16-06  VargPOD: Amazing save by Carlsen! Where did Predojevic go wrong?
May-16-06  acirce: <at least Rybka think it's makese a difference of 4 pawns>

I know, but Rybka is stupid; it is a draw. Try to find a way to make process when White just moves his bishop. It's impossible. Study-like!

May-16-06  percyblakeney: Carlsen sure had to work a bit for his draws in the last rounds, but impressive to be undefeated and share first place in this tournament...
May-16-06  cannibal: <Icyclemort>
It WOULD have been a draw with f5 a move earlier.
73. ... f5 74. Nxf5 Bxf5+ 75. Kb3 Bb1
and black can't do anything. If he takes the last white pawn, white trades bishops and its dead draw. If he doesnt, white just moves his bishop back and forth. (Doesnt surprise me that Rybka falls for the eytra bishop)
May-16-06  VargPOD: <cuendillar>, round 9 of group B was played today. Milanovic-Jovanic was a white win, mate on move 49.
May-16-06  Icyclemort: <cannibal>
I concede the point, hadn't seen that.

And i must adimit, one should not rely on endgame analysis by Rybka...

May-16-06  Icyclemort: BTW, what are the tie braker rules in this tournament?
May-16-06  awfulhangover: Magnus should be awarded 1st place after this fight and the ugly draw beetween nisi and malakov!
May-16-06  Icyclemort: <awfulhangover>

That, we all agree on...

but do the tie brakers too?

May-16-06  cannibal: There might not be any tiebreaks at all, as the tournament history site gives two or three winners for some of the previous tournaments.
May-16-06  virginmind: awfulhangover: yea, i'm a country man of him but i sadly have to admit i too didn't like that 12 move draw he did today... well, at least it's for sure in the tie breakers he'll have to fight. good luck nisipeanu!
May-16-06  virginmind: cannibal: oh, really?
May-16-06  Xaurus: According to this page Carlsen and Nisipeanu has an even tiebreak:

http://www.europe-echecs.com/articl...

May-16-06  awfulhangover: <virginmind> Good. I have nothing against the two players, but taking a draw i a situation where you must win to be sure of winning a tourney seems like crazy. However, it may be that the money at stake make poor (?) chess players do this. Magnus does not need to think about that.
May-16-06  percyblakeney: It's been a rather tough schedule with ten rounds without rest days, and for example Sasikiran has an average of almost 60 moves per game...
