Feb-20-08 | | zluria: Topalov's play seems very strange today. He sacrificed a pawn with Qb3, and then lacked a follow up. He did this in Corus too, once: He sac'ed a knight without much compensation, and duly lost. |

Feb-20-08 | | yalie: <acirce: Perhaps Lékó missed that Black will have 30.Ba6 Rd8 threatening mate so that White has no time to save the g2-pawn? But on the other hand, after 31.b4 I've no idea who is better.> good call. although he played Ba6 relatively quickly. so either he is still missing it or is not too scared about it. |
Feb-20-08 | | empien: <alphavillee> do you have Rybka on Leko-Anand? |
Feb-20-08
 | | plang: <but what was the last time somebody played the Alekhine Defense at a Top Level Tournament?>
Ivanchuk played it against Kasparov in Las Palmas 1996 and lost. Someone must have played it since then though. |
Feb-20-08
 | | ketchuplover: Ivanchuk is deep in thought. |
Feb-20-08 | | acirce: <I think Leko-Anand game could go either way. Once the queenside pawns start rolling, it's anyone's game.> Agreed. Or to put it in more scientific terms, I've no idea what the hell is going on. |
Feb-20-08 | | bharatiy: Anand is better |
Feb-20-08 | | rover: Topalov can hardly win the pawn on d5 without losing one of his own on the queenside. Plus he really isn't all that great in these kinds of positions so I'd give at least 60% for a Carlsen win. |
Feb-20-08 | | peddagunnu: Any evals computer on the Leko-Anand? Risky business by Leko. |
Feb-20-08 | | minasina: <miroeight> not after 22....h6 |
Feb-20-08 | | Refused: Carlsen played it occasionally in Blitz (but Blitz doesn't count), but 1996 might be a good guess |
Feb-20-08
 | | ketchuplover: Did Topalov just doom his bishop? |
Feb-20-08 | | empien: Kf4 is interesting - I am assuming Nxg2 was loss of tempo? |
Feb-20-08 | | bharatiy: Computer think that anand should have played Rd1+, Rd2+ |
Feb-20-08 | | peddagunnu: Come on Carlsen push the pawn |
Feb-20-08 | | Trabiwa: I think it is really cool that Peter and Vishy managed to create a tense game after that position after move 20. |
Feb-20-08 | | The End: Leko-Anand goes either way.May be leko is better. |
Feb-20-08 | | Refused: somehow Topalov's position is getting from bad to worse, next step would be lost |
Feb-20-08 | | Pianoman: Shredder thinks ...d4 for Carlsen should be very cool .... |
Feb-20-08 | | acirce: <peddagunnu> my Fritz still likes Anand by just a little. But I don't think that means anything at all. Lékó happened to play its preferred move 32.Rc6, btw. Probably it will just be a draw in the end. |
Feb-20-08 | | Hesam7: <acirce: Agreed. Or to put it in more scientific terms, I've no idea what the hell is going on.> Here is an argument for Leko:
The game will boil down to a pawn race in opposite wings. Having the bishop is a classical plus in such situations. |
Feb-20-08 | | empien: Leko's Rc6 looks very good |
Feb-20-08
 | | ketchuplover: carlsen's d4 doesn't look so cool now |
Feb-20-08 | | peddagunnu: Where is the maschismo? Hiding the bishop like that? |
