Evgenij Petkov Ermenkov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was awarded the IM title in 1974 and the GM title in 1977. Bulgarian Champion in 1973, 1975 (after a play-off), 1976, 1979 (after a play-off) and 1984 (jointly). He was 4th at Prague in 1985 and lead the Bulgarian Olympiad teams in 1978 and 1980.
