Aug-08-08  VinnyRoo2002: I love the way this kid plays. I have no idea how good he'll become (I know he's pretty damn good already), but there's something really beautiful and original about the way he plays chess. I get a feeling he will climb up the rankings pretty rapidly.

Penguincw: Congrats to Eltaj Safarli for stopping Levan Pantsulaia cold at the Nakhchivan Open 2015. Pantsulaia had won all of his first 6 games (including beating 4th seed V Onischuk), but it was 7th seed Safarli who downed Pantsulaia. Both are now at 5/6 heading into Round 7.

Safarli will face 11th seed Gadir Guseinov (4.5/6) with black, while Pantsulaia will have white against 6th seed Tiviakov (also 4.5/6). Six other players are at 4.5/6.

So far, Safarli (2640) has gained a modest 6.3 rating points. If he wins his next 3 games, he could reach the top 100 live ratings (currently 2653.1 is needed).

Penguincw: And congrats to Safarli for winning the Nakhchivan Open 2015. Safarli would draw the next 2 games with black, and win in the final round with white against Pouya Idani. He finished in a tie for 1st with 7/9 (+5,-0,=4) with compatriot Gadir Guseinov, but edged him out on tiebreaks, which was average rating of opponents (2504 vs. 2413). Safarli entered as the 7th seed.

At 2640, he gained a solid 9.1 rating points to rise to, 2649.1, just 4 points behind #100 on the live ratings, Denis Khismatullin (2653.1).
