GM David Baramidze was born in Tibilisi, Georgia. He learned the rules of chess at the age of 5 or 6 from his father. In 1998 the Baramidze family moved to Germany where he obtained German citizenship in 2000.

He became an IM in 2002 and a GM in 2004.
