Apr-08-05  PivotalAnorak: LuckyLuc on ICC if I'm not mistaken.
A fellow countryman of mine, our only "home-made" GM at the moment (the - few - other ones being from Russian origin). Once the highest rated french-speaking player IN THE WORLD :-) (before the uprising of Bacrot, Lautier, etc). Cheers, Luc !

WTHarvey: Here are some chess diagrams of Luc's crucial positons in games not seen here: http://www.wtharvey.com/wina.html
Apr-08-05  babakova: even higher rated than Spasskij?
Apr-08-05  PivotalAnorak: Spassky can't speak French, I think - even though he is French now. Boris, si tu nous lis, n'hésite pas à nous faire signe... :-)

cu8sfan: <PivotalAnorak> I doubt that his ICC handle is LuckyLuc, that guy doesn't really play like a master: http://www.chessclub.com/activities...
Apr-08-05  centrumspits: Ik denk dat Pivotalanorak Luc's handle op playchess bedoelt!
Apr-08-05  BaranDuin: His playchess handle is GoodLuc
Apr-09-05  PivotalAnorak: <all> Sorry guys, my mistake: like BaranDuin said, it's GoodLuc

Apr-27-09  Xeroxx: Win ants?
May-17-09  ILikeFruits: this ant...
is luc...
Dec-18-09  waustad: He has had the questionable pleasure of being beaten by many of the best players of the age. I would assume that if a more complete record of his games were given, he'd look a lot better, at least statistically.
Jan-01-11  wordfunph: Winants-Abolianin Belgian Team Championship 2000:

On move 13's Qa4, GM Luc Winants left the board to buy a cup of coffee and when he returned, he found all the pieces had been reset on their original squares and his opponent had disappeared! Astonished, he looked around to see if someone was playing a joke on him --- when finally a team mate whispered the ominous words "his phone rang".

happy birthday GM Winants!

May-27-11  libertyjack: haha nice story <wordfunph> !
Dec-18-12  waustad: As I thought, he's still active and if you look at his results as far as the FIDE stats are concerned they are vastly better than what we see here. Very often people only post the games of their faves and it seems he hasn't gotten that treatment so far.

Feb-07-23  syracrophy: Mr. Winants passed away at 60, confirmed by Nigel Short. Little I knew about this player. His game vs Carlsen is entertaining and wild. Rest in peace 🍀✨
Feb-21-23  Mississaugan: I was looking for his game against Karpov. Wherein being the whipping boy of the tournament, when he played Karpov he had had the most enviable position that could win him the brilliancy prize. It ended up with Karpov winning the game. The final position showed just the trace of his "dream position".
Feb-25-23  syracrophy: <Mississaugan> Thanks for sharing detail of that interesting game
