Apr-11-09  PhilFeeley: Now Pascal's blog no longer exists. He's playing in this year's Foxwoods Open. He was probably concentrating on his studies before now.

As for "Mr. Krush", I was discussing this with Frederic Friedel (of Chessbase) and he said they were not married, despite the reference I have to it in Paul Hoffman's book "King's Gambit" (p. 418). Mr. Friedel did not explain.

Apr-12-09  Dredge Rivers: <PhilFeeley> <he said they were not married>

So, Irina Krush is still available? SWEEEEEET! :)

Aug-21-12  PhilFeeley: What happend to this guy? He's dropped of the map. Did he officially retire from chess, like Mark Bluvshtein? Sad day for Canada to lose two GMs.

Breunor: I talked to him a few times a few years ago when I was president of the NY Banker’s Chess League. He was our guest speaker at our annual dinner.

He was very good; a very nice guy. He is articulate and a very good speaker.

perfidious: Living where I do, I have known a number of people with the surname Charbonneau/Charboneau and they were not swarthy.

Even played Pascal when he was a skinny kid, back at the former Specialiste one Friday night. He was strong then (probably 2050), though nowhere near the monster he would become.

May-07-24  BarakSaltz: My first encounter with the name "Charbonneau" was through getting a Joe Charboneau baseball card. Back then, I had not yet started learning French, much less become fluent at it.

"charbon" is coal in French.

Words and names in French that end with -eau will have typically had an -l at the end. The -l got absorbed into a form of vowel lengthening.

Of note is the British fine chocolate company "Charbonnel et Walker".

perfidious: Charboneau enjoyed an outstanding rookie season in 1980; pity injuries and ineffectiveness had the final say.
