| sapfy: <HeMateMe: It'd be very cool if another woman broke into the top ten> Don't hold your breath while waiting. Besides, the most promising prospect in that regard probably isn't T. Kosintseva, but Hou Yifan. <Isn't there a young Ukranian woman who's also a powerhouse, someone who made a GM norm at age 13?> Kateryna Lahno.

 |
| percyblakeney: Lahno and Kosintseva are still a bit below 2500 and for top ten you almost need 2750 these days. |

| Davolni: <Timex> Sargsian is 23 I think. so shouldn't be that much of a big difference....LOL:) |

| percyblakeney: I wonder if they still have that rule that makes you a GM if you win the women's European Championship. Zhaoqin Peng even got the title through finishing second (lost the tiebreak to Kosteniuk) in 2004. |

| iron maiden: <I wonder if they still have that rule that makes you a GM if you win the women's European Championship.> I don't think it's in effect anymore. So far as I know Lahno and Atalik (the last two women's champions) were never awarded the title. |

 |
| Hot Logic: It is probably better for them to earn the norms the normal way. Koneru Humpy is another strong female junior who is currently very close to (Susan) Polgar's #2 all time record. I wonder if I will ever see a female become world champion in my lifetime. |

| percyblakeney: <I don't think it's in effect anymore> Good, as <Hot Logic> says it's probably better with "normal" GM's than the "one good result" GM's. And Kosintseva will surely earn the titler sooner or later anyway. Chessbase were impressed by her being <a full point> ahead of the field, they will probably be even more impressed when they realise it was two full points... Can't be too often a tenth ranked player has won that far ahead of a field of 150 players. http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... |

| stanleys: I like this picture of Tatiana:http://chesspro.ru/_images/material... She looks like a striker, scoring a goal and telling the supporters "Don't hear your applauses guys!" |

| dehanne: <I like this picture of Tatiana:http://chesspro.ru/_images/material...; So young and already having need of a hearing aid? :-( I guess it's good against noise distraction, though. |

 |
| Hot Logic: Well the way I see it she is only tenth seed because of Aeroflot + Corus results playing against a bunch of 2600's, her real playing strength is much higher than 2450. Normally she is rated a bit ahead of her sister, who is at 2490 right now - draw your own conclusions folks. |

| schnarre: Any more recent news about her? |

 |
| Hot Logic: Susan Polgar's chess blog has just noted that Tatiana now has a 2500+ rating on the newest list. 2502 to be exact. |
