2009: Leading GM loses to his mobile phone, which plays a rude ringtone every time he makes a mistake. 2011: Leading GM loses to his son's Lego toy.>

You wouldn't want to be labelled a plagiarist would you?

Jun-25-05  aw1988: Stealing from one is called plagiarism. Stealing from many is called research.

Sorry, sorry!

lostemperor: The Hydra monster, in the poster, looks like a hybrid between Alien and Predator.

Jun-25-05  Dionyseus: <Montreal1666> Can you give me your email? If you do not want to show it publically, email me your address to AlexTheGreyWolf@hotmail.com and I'll send you the pgn file.
Jun-25-05  Montreal1666: <Dionyseus:> Thanks man. I have just sent you an e-mail
Jun-25-05  50 Quatloos Newcomer: Couldn't they dress it up as sort of a user friendly gadget, you know, like the washing-machine robot from "Space Family Robinson"?
Jun-26-05  alexandrovm: Hydra is a great "chess player" :) But, obviously, not the best! In the freestyle tournament, it didn't make it: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...
Jun-26-05  Knight13: Is the computer Hydra beaten by Nickle another version of Hydra (not the one that's playing against Adams)?
Jun-26-05  Swapmeet: I noticed hydra's moves are being made by some guy with a laptop. Wouldn't it be more of a spectacle if they had some sort of evil looking mechanical device to move the pieces? Like a modern day turk or something, only this time there actually IS a machine making the moves.
Jun-26-05  Montreal1666: <Knight13:> Yes.
Jun-26-05  Montreal1666: Once they make the final version of Hydra, in the future, that Hydra will be stronger than the best human player. I am sure at that point they will be pressured to let Hydra play on its own even eralier than move 10. For example if Hydra goes out of the book on move 5, at the start of each game it will fall behind its human oppoent on the clock. By the end of the game things should balanced out time-wise. The No. 5 was just an example. They will have to do tests to find the max. No. of moves that Hydra can play from its library in order to balance things out.
Jun-26-05  aw1988: “In our quest to prove the power of Hydra we could not have hoped for a better outcome. This is a far more difficult opponent than Kasparov, and Adams has played extremely well. So we are very pleased with the performance of our machine"

Excuse me, a more difficult opponent than Kasparov?!?!?!

Maybe Anna Nicole Smith is available.

Jun-26-05  Akavall: <aw1988>

<and Adams has played extremely well.>!?

I don't think those guys are being objective....lol

Jun-26-05  technical draw: Actually there is NO Hydra. It was Bobby Fischer playing from a Tokio jail. Abu Dabai indeed!
Jun-26-05  Granite: <aw1988> I believe Kasparov is no longer in his top form and makes a lot of silly endgame blunders that Hydra would punish. Without middlegame complications to confuse his opponent I suspect he'd do poorly. On the other hand, Adams is hardly a serious challenger to Hydra either it seems.
Jun-26-05  Perkins: < technical draw > It was MORIARTY playing from a South London Nic.....
Jun-26-05  aw1988: To say Adams is better than Kasparov is utter stupidity.
Jun-26-05  SnoopDogg: <I believe Kasparov is no longer in his top form and makes a lot of silly endgame blunders that Hydra would punish.>

I believe anyone who thinks this is a moron. Kasparov won Linares the strongest tournament of the year (all the top ten were there) in 4 months ago not 4 years ago. He hasn't been away for that long.

Jun-26-05  Montreal1666: <“In our quest to prove the power of Hydra we could not have hoped for a better outcome. This is a far more difficult opponent than Kasparov, and Adams has played extremely well. So we are very pleased with the performance of our machine">

It is truly stunning!. If as reported by chessBase <Chrilly> has actually said these words then we will have to totaly disregard whatever he has said here before. He doesn't seem to understand much about chess.

Jun-26-05  GoodChessClub: Hydra, Bobby Fischer of the 21th century!

...with the only different that it did not win 6-0.

Jun-26-05  WillC21: I think you guys are all missing something. Do you really think Chrilly believes Michael Adams is stronger than Garry Kasparov? Chrilly is making controversial statements in public on purpose to get Kasparov's motor running and to create speculation of a Kasparov-Hydra match in the future. Since most of you can't seem to figure this out, let me inform you: what Chrilly is doing is called "Public Relations."
Jun-26-05  yoozum: I think his statement was misinterpreted. He probably meant to say that HYDRA is even tougher than Kasparov, not Adams.

But I could be wrong.
