Joshka: Any Bio info on this player?..age?..ect.?
Apr-19-06  MoonlitKnight: Pontus Carlsson is a 24-year-old Swedish IM. Although very talented, it seems like his progress has halted a bit, since his rating was practically the same 5 years ago.
Apr-30-06  BIDMONFA: Pontus Carlsson

Apr-30-06  babakova: He played a few games against swedish champ Evgenij Agrest that were broadcast on tv, I remember. I think Agrest won.
Oct-28-06  chessdrummer: No moonlitknight... Carlsson has been improving steadily the past couple of years and has earned several IM norms (and the title) and two GM norms. He will turn 24 in December.

Feb-11-07  Tomlinsky: A very aggressive and nicely played French Tarrasch by white. He refuses the exchange of queens and goes on to handle the endgame superbly.

Mar-04-07  atripodi: According to the Chess Drum (www.thechessdrum.net) Carlsson has earned his final norm and is waiting for FIDE to confirm the title. This makes him the 2nd black GM and 16th Swedish GM in history.

Congrats to GM Carlsson! No longer is GM Ashley the only Black GM in the world.

Mar-04-07  Ziggurat: Cool, well done Pontus!
Apr-19-07  Marvol: The image above is from one of his games against Bologan P Carlsson vs Bologan, 2006 or P Carlsson vs Bologan, 2006 which he both lost...

Which of the two games was it? And why does he have so many problems with Swiss Cheese?

Apr-19-07  WBP: <Congrats to GM Carlsson! No longer is GM Ashley the only Black GM in the world.> Yes! And may Emory Tate soon join the ranks!
Oct-03-07  firebyrd: The European club cup pages has him still listed as IM, as does the FIDE card. And whereas the rating graph does not show any official rating > 2500, (max 2495 on April 07) his Sigeman chess result should have put him momentarily > 2500 which should be enough, right?

He is not on the Fide list of titles awarded on the latest board meeting in Mexico either.

Oct-06-07  cuendillar: FIDE approved his GM title only recently, the Swedish Chess Federation recieved confirmation yesterday (October 5th). It appears there's been a lot of bureaucracy involved before getting it confirmed. Hopefully this will improve his play in the Club Cup.
Nov-05-07  Elxiddicus: So far he's gained 21.6 Elo points in the first 7 rounds the European Team Championships
Nov-05-07  Pennypacker: If he can do something about his poor time management then I think he climb the rating charts and be a 2600 player in a not so distant future.

Nov-06-07  acirce: Congratulations, Pontus!
Nov-06-07  Karpova: His final rating gain is 24.7

GrahamClayton: Interesting upbringing - Pontuss lost his family at the age of one and was adopted by a Swedish family:
