Nov-05-04 | | Stevens: <cu8sfan> ha ha ha! Thanks for the pointer the other day to the kasparov page for the conclusion of the acirce debate by the way... |
Nov-05-04 | | cuendillar: Why not discuss topics concerning The World on its page. Aren't we doing that on almost all other player profiles? |
Nov-05-04 | | Stevens: You got a point... |
Nov-05-04 | | I sacrifice like Tal: Man the World sucks. How embaressing!
*flies off to Mars* |
Nov-05-04 | | pkjohn146: I was going to respond to Agent, but to respect those of you who are probably tired of the whole thing, I will refrain. Believe if you want to that us bad old republican conservatives rigged the election. I would really like to get back to the subject of Chess now. Is it safe to assume that the world will always lose to a GM? |
Nov-05-04 | | Stevens: I guess it depends on who plays for the world. Too many cooks spoil the broth and all that. |
Nov-05-04 | | AgentRgent: <Is it safe to assume that the world will always lose to a GM?> The World already has 2 draws.. so that's not a safe assumption. |
Nov-05-04 | | molinov: The World won a game against GM Ariel Sorin, current argentine champion. |
Nov-05-04 | | AgentRgent: Chessgames.com,
Please explain which posting guideline was broken by the posts you deleted. |
Nov-05-04 | | pawn52: <AgentRgent> The answer is right on the homepage. This is a site for chess, not politics or world events that are NOT related to chess. |
Nov-05-04 | | WMD: As Chessgames.com is based in Florida, Jeb Bush obviously ordered their removal. |
Nov-05-04
 | | chessgames.com: AgentRgent, just that they were off-topic, combined with my previous request to stop the political talk before things get out of hand. Ditto for "iceysteps" post above. The hypothesis that there was mass-scale voting fraud is very interesting, but unfortunately this is not the place to discuss it. Sorry. |
Nov-05-04 | | AgentRgent: <pawn52:> Have you seen this page: Raymond Keene ? We've had discussions about far less important things on here. Furthermore, the tone of this conversation was far more civil than many that have been allowed to continue far longer. |
Nov-05-04
 | | chessgames.com: I really had no problem in what you posted and in fact I found it very interesting, but it's the context of posting it immediately after we requested to chill the political discussion here. I don't know if you recall, but several months back we made the mistake of suggesting that political talk be moved to this page, and in a few days there were 25 pages of debate which largely bordered on hysterical shouting and ranting. Finally we recanted, an admin "dropped the nuke," and all that heated debate went down the memory hole--I'm just trying to avoid a rerun of that incident. About Keene's page: as we have explained in the past, Keene has been given free reign on his own page--if he wants to post cookie recipes then they are "Grandmaster Cookie Recipes" and therefore considered on-topic. |

 | | tpstar: <chessgames.com> With all due respect to the fine Webmasters, I have a different recollection of when The World was nuked in June 2004. Myself and iron maiden primarily conducted the joint defense, yet in the process both of us plus 6 other posters faced dozens of insults and cheap shots in response which were eventually deleted en masse. (Remember?) There were 4 pages of text on the puzzle page, then 7 more pages here, because I printed them out. ;>) I completely agree that on the Internet, it is all too common for debaters to attack the opponent along with the argument, thus violating PG#3, so you have to draw the line somewhere. Peace out. |

Nov-06-04
 | | chessgames.com: Well, I exaggerate with my count of 25 pages, and I never meant to imply that everyone involved was hysterical mud-slingers, but the point remains the same: what starts off as an well intentioned discussion about truly important stuff turns into a heated "flame war" which would be destined to become a permanent part of this site. The easiest way to prevent this is to not discuss important stuff... discuss chess instead! ;-) |
Nov-06-04 | | acirce: Instead of politics, let's stick to.. chess politics. That's definitely not incendiary ;-) |
Nov-06-04 | | sneaky pete: <acirce> <let's stick to ... chess politics> What a wonderful idea! What do you think, wouldn't it be a solution to the current world champion problem if we let the chessplayers of the world decide upon it in free elections using the trusted Diebold Frauding Machines? |
Nov-06-04 | | cuendillar: Why not combine chess and politics? http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... If that isn't a patzer... Maybe <chessgames.com> can upload the game? |
Nov-06-04
 | | Sneaky: I think one of the players is supposed to be rated over 2200. Or at the very least, over 1200 :-) |
Nov-06-04 | | cuendillar: Are you sure, I think I remember chessgames.com stating that games by famous people always are welcome. By the way they probably played that game on a level below 900, possibly lower. |

Nov-06-04 | | Pawsome: <BishopBerkley> Thanks for the stellar image. You will note that everybody in Canada (power smart race that we are) has turned their lights out to conserve energy! |

 | | BishopBerkeley: True enough, <Pawsome>, but I can see that one of my all-time favorite cities, Toronto, is enjoying an abundant nightlife! I've spent lots of time in Canada, I totally love the country! (: ♗B :) |

 | | BishopBerkeley: NASA's "Astronomy Picture of the Day"
The archive is the best bookmark:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ar...
But the simple picture of the day is also very good. A nice browser homepage if you don't already have one (and if you're on a reasonably fast connection): http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/as...
The World and its environs!
