tpstar: P) French with 1. e4 e6 2. d4 b6, consider 4. Nbd2 over 4. Nc3, 6. Bg5 was good to trade Bad Bishop for Black's Good Bishop, Black dropped Ra8, reviewed different ways to retrieve the Bishop, eventual RR vs RN endgame where Black lost the R, then White traded R for N and advanced a Pawn to win.

M) 1. b3 g6 2. Bb2 Nf6, discussed importance of Bg7 in KID set-up, interesting sequence 13. Nd4 Bxd4 14. Qxd4 Nc5 15. Na4 Nd3+ 16. Ke2 Nxb2 17. Nxb2 Qd7, relocated Q & B in worse positions, should have retreated 30 ... Qg7 to hold dark squares, White missed 34. Rxd8 winning a full Rook, also 35. R1d5 winning the Qh5, Black was down Q vs QN and found perpetual check to draw.

P) Scotch with 4 ... Nf6, consider 4 ... Bc5 and if 5. Nxc6 Qf6 trick move, recaptured 5 ... dxc6 and Queens off, White missed 12 ... Nxc2+ & 13 ... Nxa1, Black nicely won B with Discovered Check (28 ... Bd1+ 29. Kd2 Bxf3) for RB vs K and 0-1.

M) Philidor, reminded 3. d4 best for White and 3. Bb5+ Bd7 4. Bxd7+ Nxd7 helps Black, missed 10. Bxc5 dxc5 11. Nxe5, instead 11. Nh2 g4 and Queen trade on g4, nice play to obtain Nd5 + Rc3 attacking Pc7, won 2 Pawns but low on time so couldn't convert RN vs RB endgame or final R vs KPP ending, gave up R for PP and drew.

P) Center Game with 3 ... Nc6 4. Qe3 Nf6, good development (5 ... Bb4 & 6 ... 0-0), missed 8 ... Nxe4! winning a Pawn, then missed 9 ... d4 forking Q & B, but White blundered 11. Qh3?? Bxh3 0-1.

M) Giuoco Piano with 3 ... Na5?, missed 4. Nxe5 Nxc4 5. Nxc4, retreated 4. Bb3, missed 10. Rxa7, misplayed even RR vs RR endgame which could have been held but Black won.

tpstar: Scotch Game, Transpose/Transposition, Caveman Attack. Peter very facile with KQ vs K and KR vs K.

P) Sicilian with 3. d4 Nf6 4. e5 Nd5 5. c4 Nb6, Black answered 9. Bb5+ with 9 ... Kf8!?, traded QB for KB, had 11. 0-0 de 12. Nxe5! since 12 ... Qxe5? 13. Re1 wins the Q, Black traded Queens and avoided trap 12 ... Qxd6? 13. Qe8#, dropped Pg2, Black missed 17. Ng5 hitting Bh3, White advanced Nc7 & Nxa8, good Knight Fork to win material using pin on Pf7 with Rb7.

M) Italian Game with 4. d3 Nf6 5. Ng5!? 0-0, then 6. Qf3 and should have played 6 ... h6 forcing 7. Nh3 first, transposed to that line later, White won Ph6 due to Qg3 and mate threat, missed 14 ... Bg6 and 14 ... Ne8 defending, answered 16. b4 with 16 ... Be3!? and then missed 17. f4 Discovery on Be3 (17 ... c5?? 18. Qxe3), then after 21. 0-0 had 21 ... Nd5! winning material due to Discovery on Ra1, instead 21 ... Re8?? 22. Qxf6 and 2 pieces down, quickly 1-0.

  tpstar: P) Ruy Lopez Steinitz Defense, 8 ... c5!? created hole at d5 plus backward Pawn, White helped out with 11. Nd5 Nxd5 12. exd5, even game until 19 ... Qa4?! (19 ... Re8) 20. Qxd6 Re8 but White erred with 21. Kf1? Qxc4+ mating.

M) KGA = 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. e5 Qe7!? 5. Bc4 d5, moved 7 ... c6 to support Pd5 but then 9 ... c5? 10. Bxd5, after 11 ... Nb6 12. c4!? Nxd5?! 13. cxd5 White had a positionally won game, instead 12 ... dc 13. Nxc3 better continuation, White played nice attack against King in the center, won Q for R and created mate with Q & B.

P) Sicilian with 3. Bc4, 5. Ng5!? waste of time, 5 ... Ne5 6. Bb5+ Bd7 7. Bxd7+ Qxd7 helped Black, after 9 ... 0-0-0 tried to set Nb6+ trap winning Qd7, Black opened Kingside lines and won a Pawn, then had White's QB & QR stuck on the back rank, traded out of it into drawn RP endgame.

M) QGA, discussed how clutching Pawn with ... b5 is bad, after 5. Bxc4 Bf5?! White had 6. Qb3 winning material, traded NB for RP, should have castled instead of 12 ... Ng4!? & 13 ... e5?!, White took on f7 and won the Queen, then quickly mated (1-0).

P) Italian Game with 4. d3 Qf6 5. 0-0 (5. Nc3), 6. b4!? Bxb4 7. Bb2 and won Pe5, won Pb5 pinned against Qa5, traded down well to easily won K&P endgame.

M) Italian Game with 4. d3 Nf6 5. 0-0 0-0, good development, Black's Queen chased Pb2 and got trapped, 21. Qc4 nice fork (Pf7 & Pa6), won more material with 29. Qd7 c6?? 30. Nxe7+ 1-0.

P) Giuoco Piano, 6 ... Bb6?! should get crushed after e5 & d5, 6 ... Bb4+ is correct followed by 7. Nc3 or 7. Nbd2, then 9. Bd5 f5!? should have lost Queen to 10. ef Nxf6 11. Re1, both sides won exchange into BOOC, dropped Pg6, White lost Rd1 to Skewer, won endgame albeit somewhat inefficiently.

M) Sicilian Alapin, even out of opening, White dropped Pd4 but established strong Nd6, Black lost piece to Pb5 fork, then White blundered Bd3 away, Black lost exchange to Nf7+ fork but didn't need to deal with Discovered Check since no good Discovery, interesting RB vs BN endgame with Black up 4 Pawns, White played better to pick off Pawns, eventually KRP vs KB and Black could have used the Bishop as Interference to win the Ph4 and draw.

tpstar: Opposition, Family Fork, Borg, Grob, Max Lange.

P) 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d6 3. Nf3 h6 4. Nc3 g5!?, good development, won Pe5, missed 16. Bxf7+! winning 2 Pawns, won Rook for 2 pieces after 23. Bxh4 since Pg4 pinned, up full piece but Black obtained passed g Pawn which won.

M) Pirc with 4. Bg5 h6 5. Bh4 e5, traded Queens off, 14. 0-0-0 so Pa2 undefended, Black had Pawn up endgame but couldn't convert due to RP. Long discussion about Opposition and K&P endgames.

P) 2N, 4. Nc3?! allowed Fork Trick but Black played 4 ... h6!?, Black gambited e Pawn, traded Queens, should have challenged d file instead of allowing 19 ... Rd2, soon R4P vs R3P which Black should have held but gave up both Kingside Pawns while White's King held the a Pawn and 1-0.

M) Sicilian with 2. d3 Nc6 3. Be3 b6!? (3 ... e6), slow Kingside development and weak back rank, gained open files nicely but dangerous trade (29 ... Rc5?! 30. Rxc5 bxc5) allowed passed b Pawn which was decisive.

P) Max Lange with 5. 0-0 Nxe4 6. Re1 d5 7. Bxd5 Qxd5 8. Qd3!?, consider 8 ... f5 to hold piece, instead 8 ... Bf5 9. Nbd2 Bb4 10. c3 Bc5 11. Nxe4 0-0, unsound sacrifice 12. Bh6?! hoping for 12 ... gxh6?? 13. Nf6+, Black played 12 ... Bxe4 13. Rxe4 gxh6 and won easily.

M) Philidor, 3. d4 over 3. Bb5+, closed center, Black lost piece after 12 ... Nb4 13. c4 Bf6? and White missed 14. a3 but found 15. a3, Black got 2 Pawns for the piece, traded down well, need to blockade Pawns before winning them, decent technique in KB4P vs K4P endgame.

  tpstar: P) Giuoco Piano with 4. d3 d6 5. Nc3 Bg4 6. h3 Bh5 7. g4 Bg6, White sacrificed N for 2 P (10. Nxf6+!?), then helped by trading 12. Bxe7!? Qxe7, Black had nice battery on the f file, could have won Nf3 (14 ... Nd4!), won Pb2 yet half opened b file toward 0-0-0, won Pf2, missed fork between Kd2 & Rh2, still won exchange and traded off Queens, 2 Rook up endgame so 0-1.

M) Ruy Lopez as White, 3 ... d6 4. Nc3 Bd7 5. Nd5!?, discussed 3 ... a6 vs 3 ... d6, advised 4. d4 and avoid moving QN twice, even game until 14. Qb4!? c5 15. Qa3 b6 helped Black, key error with 18 ... f5?! 19. Qc4 Qd6 20. Nxe5 (20. Rxe5 wins 2 Pawns) Nf6 21. Ng6 Re8? (21 ... Rf7):

Here 22. Rxe8+ Nxe8 23. Qxd5+! Qxd5 24. Ne7+ & 25. Nxd5 wins a Rook, instead Black gave up exchange on f4, White's King strolled to Queenside, good play by both sides until Black blundered Ng4, White should have kept Queens around to pick off Pawns but traded into lost R vs P endgame as Black soon had 2 connected passed Pawns on the 6th rank.

tpstar: P) Giuoco Piano, 4. Ng5?? Qxg5 5. d4 Qxg2, could have won Be3 with 7 ... ed over 7 ... Nxd4, traded down well, saw potential to block f file if White doubles, White missed Discovery on Rg7 and 0-1.

M) Philidor with 3. d4, 7. Bb5+ traded off KB for QB, even game out of opening, nice hole at d5, missed QR battery against f2, Black won 2 Pawns and got Rook to the 7th, White set trap to win piece but Black avoided it and won the Ne2 for 0-1.

P) QGD Exchange as White, 7. Ne5!? Nxe5 8. dxe5 Nd7 9. f4, could have trapped Bg6 with 12. f5, nice fork (21. Qe6+) to win a piece so 1-0.

M) Philidor with 3. d4 (same opponent), 6. Nc3 Be6 7. Bb5+ Nd7, traded Ng5 for Be6, then Black missed 14. Nc7+ winning the Queen = 1-0.

P) Ruy Lopez Steinitz Defense, 4. 0-0 Bg4, piled on Nf3 (9 ... Nd4) so 10. g4 Nxb5 11. Nxb5 Bg6, recaptured 13 ... fxg6!? to half open f file but closed it with 19 ... gxf6, White had nice Nf5 while Black got nice Nf4, White blundered into Family Fork (Kg1 & Qd4) = 25 ... Ne2+ 0-1.

M) Ruy Lopez as White, Cordel, Exchange, 7. d4 ed 8. Nxd4, 12. Qf3 over 12. Qxd7, Black dropped Bc5, trading Bf4 for Nd6 would have led to easier endgame, Black used R&N well, eventually piece up endgame converted by Queening.

P) Philidor Defense with 3 ... Be7? 4. de de 5. Nxe5, Black traded Queens so consider 5. Qxd8+ & 6. Nxe5 instead, might try f3 to protect won Pawn, good development, continued trading into B vs N endgame, knew how to corral Nh2 (set nice trap), Black erred by allowing White King to d5 while losing second Pawn, 33. Bxd7 trading down was easier win but White closed it out.

M) Vienna into Center Game (3. d4 ed 4. Qxd4 Nc6 5. Qd3), then 5 ... Nb4!? 6. Qd2 Nxe4?! and White should have won a piece with 7. Nxe4 Qe7 8. Qe2 d5 9. c3, instead 8. Bd3!? d5 9. a3 Nxd3+ 10. Qxd3 dxe4 and Black was a Pawn up, traded down and castled on opposite wings, then BOOC endgame where Black should have lost Bishop (57 ... c5?? 58. Rd6+ & 59.
