The game Tal vs Korchnoi, 1955 appears in Mikhail Tal , but not in Viktor Korchnoi ? I just changed the event tag to reflect that this game was played in the semifinal, not the final. Please tell me this is not a new bug. As of 6:19 pm PST, the game is definitely in Tal's list, but not Korchnoi's. |
|
Sep-27-21 | | g15713: I am very frustrated with how testing is done... Game collections cannot be updated with chess symbols while changes in the title work One can use html entries in either decimal or hex but only temporary One makes a change and then one goes back to make another change and everything goes back to question marks - ? Hallmark of good programming is to test your code before sending it out to the users. 'Game Collection: g15713's favorite Queen endgames 'Game Collection: g15713's favorite Sundry endings |

<Stephen>
As suspected, there was indeed a delay bug in play on Tal vs Korchnoi, 1955 being entered into the <Tal player page game list>, but not into <Korchnoi's>. The last time I checked before bed, several hours after 6:19 pm PST, the game was not in Tal's list. Now it is 3:25 pm PST and the game has been added to <Tal's list>. I would like to hear from you that you intend to investigate the bug reports I make with the goal of actually doing something about them. Especially I would like to know you intend to do something about the original date bug that you and I investigated together over a year ago now. I would especially like to hear that the original date bug (and it is most definitely a bug that significantly interferes with my work), is something that you know how to fix. At the least, I expect you to try. Just "leaving it" as the status quo does not work for me, since it means manually entering a huge number of entries in the date fields AFTER I have already dated the pgns properly. It might not seem like a burden to you, but try entering 30 or more pgns at once and having to return to each upload - and manually enter several changes into the edit box date fields. I remind you that these days the "wait for three hours or a day" auto "fix" is no longer reliable. I recently had to manually re-enter the date/site/venue information on a large number of uploads and I was not happy about that. I have not worked on adding a large number of games from a given historical event since that experience. Enough ok? I want this fixed properly. |

 | | stevemcd87: <MissS> Re Lasker vs S Sanders, 1920 :
I can't find what's wrong with the game.
It's usually either the 'eco' or an erroneous player, neither is the case for this game.
It shows you made an update to the game, do you remember what you updated when the issue arose?
Also, I submitted a pun, "Stick a fork in it"(hopefully hasn't been used already), for the game D Freeman vs K McDonald, 2011 referencing the fork that basically ended the game. Do you think it is worthy for the GotD tomorrow, in light of Dan's birthday? It was a PotD for last year.<Jess> I noticed when searching for the game you mentioned on <Korchnoi's> page, it wasn't showing until I searched for drawn games https://www.chessgames.com/perl/che... .
Do you believe this happened due to the update on the event tag?
Re date bug, you shouldn't need to manually update any dates. I mentioned the temp script runs every hour on the 33rd minute. If on the 34th minute you notice a game that hasn't been updated, please provide the link and I'll look into it.
I don't know if we should consider ALL the delays to be "bugs", I think a delay of up to 12 hrs should be acceptable for now. Dan has a setup that I am not 100% familiar with yet but most seems to be going according to how he designed it. I definitely understand why you would want everything to be instantaneous but the game analyzer has to be prioritized(Sorry for the delay).
I'm hoping I can work on the Gameloader after. |

 | | MissScarlett: <do you remember what you updated when the issue arose?> There was already an <S Sanders> to which the game was attributed: S Sanders I created another one and my belief is that the attempt to reassign the game was not well received. <Do you think it is worthy for the GotD tomorrow, in light of Dan's birthday> I'm agreeable (the pun hasn't been used) except that I've already selected a game for Thursday (not tomorrow). If you can override the system and place it in line, feel free. |

Sep-29-21 | | Paint My Dragon: Another <Opening Explorer> issue ... If I use the upper right button to flip the board to view the game as Black, then it only remains this way for a few moves before automatically flipping itself back to White's viewpoint. | | MissScarlett: Steve, you don't think the expression <Stick a fork in it> could be misinterpreted as a little insensitive? |
|
Sep-29-21
 | | stevemcd87: I googled "stick a fork in it meaning" and saw:
<Filters. (idiomatic, informal) Used to indicate that something or someone is finished, or, in a broader sense, defeated or ruined.>
Here's a link:

I thought it was perfect for the game.
I didn't know it can be misinterpreted, should I remove it?

Oct-01-21 | | diceman: Thanks Steve.
In <PGN 1>, after move 7, it gives a better line starting with 7...a6: <7.g4 Ne8 better is 7...a6 8.♗d3 h6 9.♘ge2 ♘h7 10.♘g3 ♖e8 11.♕f3 ♗f6 ⩲ +0.57 (34 ply)> When you go to white’s 7th move (7.g4), and click on <engine>, it shows a different line starting with h6: <1) +0.41 (22 ply) 7...h6 8.Nge2 Nh7 9.Ng3 Bh4 10.Bd2 Nd7 11.Qf3 Re8 12.Nf5 Ndf8 13.Nxh4 Qxh4 14.Be2 Ng6 15.O-O-O Bd7 16.Kc2 Rad8 17.Qg2 Ng5 18.Qg3 Qxg3 19.fxg3> I don’t know if this line:
<better is
7...a6 8.♗d3 h6 9.♘ge2 ♘h7 10.♘g3 ♖e8 11.♕f3 ♗f6 ⩲ +0.57 (34
ply)>
was left from my testing?
I notice it’s at 34 ply, while the new line:
<1) +0.41 (22 ply) 7...h6 8.Nge2 Nh7 9.Ng3 Bh4 10.Bd2 Nd7 11.Qf3 Re8 12.Nf5 Ndf8 13.Nxh4 Qxh4 14.Be2 Ng6 15.O-O-O Bd7 16.Kc2 Rad8 17.Qg2 Ng5 18.Qg3 Qxg3 19.fxg3> is at 22 ply. I usually test with the max <4 Fuel/move> it looks like your testing was done with 1. In <PGN 2>, it shows black’s move 7 as an error:
<7.h4 h5 ?>
and recommends a line starting with 7...O-O:
<7...O-O 8.♘f3 ♖b8
9.♗e2 h6 10.♘d2 ♘e8 11.b3 ♘c7 12.♗b2 ⩲ +0.66 (31 ply)> When yo go to white’s 7th move, and click on <engine>, instead of the <7...O-O> line, it shows: <Sorry, no analysis for this position.> <PGN 3> does the same. It shows 7...h5 as bad:
<7.g4 h5 ?>
♖ecommends a line starting with h6:
<7...h6 8.♘ge2 ♘f8 9.♘g3 ♘g6 10.♘f5 ♗xf5 11.gxf5 ♘f4 = +0.36 (24 ply)> When you click on <engine> you get: <Sorry, no analysis for this position.> These 3 errors (all at move 7) are the only ones I see. |
|
Oct-01-21
 | | stevemcd87: <diceman> I do initially see the <Sorry, no analysis for this position.> message, but when I click the "Request Analysis" button, it works.
If I'm not mistaking, the issue occurs for positions that were attempted prior to the recent update and the system stored the previous unanalyzed results.
I'll write some logic to spot these cases and reanalyze the position.
Let me know if you spot any other instances I could use for testing.
Thanks for the help. |
