offramp: I read Emory Tate (kibitz #269) and I was amazed that this excellent chess player had a son who was a low-life. I thought Andrew Tate was British, but I now know he has dual nationality.

I wonder if Andrew Tate can play chess at a non-beginner level.

Mar-19-24  SugarDom: Yes. Andrew Tate can play chess besides being an MMA fighter.
Mar-29-24  ADmightywarriorIN: offramp... i dont appreciate when you call people low lives without proof... if his job is to beat the shyt out of people, well that's his job, not being lowlife... AGAIN TATE'S LAST GAME, LIKE BAGIROV'S, WAS WAS THE OUTCOME SINCE THEY CROAKED AT THE CHESS TABLE...
Apr-08-24  Ilkka Salonen: No, no. All brits are somewhat daft not just Andrew Taft, or americans.

Williebob: Apparently the brothers are under 'house arrest' in Romania as the case drags along.

Also, there are charges of sexual assault percolating in the UK.

To the many faces of <Mighty Nida>, I would say that the "low life" epithet flows effortlessly from a single glance at Andrew Tate's online commercial storefront, Hustlers University.

Borrowing the famous phrase from the recently passed Noel Parmentel: "Would you buy a used car from this man?"

FSR: Andrew Tate is in high spirits:

<Andrew Tate, a manosphere influencer and self-proclaimed misogynist, has, as expected, been on a tear on X following Trump’s election.

"I saw a woman crossing the road today but I just kept my foot down. Right of way? You no longer have rights," he wrote in one post. "The men are back in charge," he said in another. And in a repost of a woman saying she's "asking for a President who isn’t a rapist," Tate wrote "REQUEST DENIED."> https://www.teenvogue.com/story/emb...

Fusilli: <offramp> I don't get it. Emory Tate had assistants? He didn't have money to have assistants. He wasn't precisely well off.
Nov-10-24  stone free or die: <Fusilli> I think <offramp> is having a go at some punning humor.

I wasn't able to find it via the internet, but perhaps "Emory's Aides" is a medical creme available at your local London druggist?

(Presumably costing less than a pile)

offramp: In my local library there's an entry in the big book.

"Emerods is an archaic term from the bible. Derived from the Old French word emoroyde, it was used as the common English term until the nineteenth century, after which it was replaced in medicine by a direct transliteration of the Ancient Greek, αἱμορροΐς, haimorrhoḯs."

Fusilli: <stone> <offramp> oh, I see... Not being a native English speaker, I'm not too good picking up wordplay when pronunciation is key.
Nov-11-24  stone free or die: <Fusilli> - I didn't get all of it either, as consolation. Who knew we'd get a lesson in word origins?

Of course, we missed the origins of the synonym:

Ron: Andrew Tate recently posted the below on X (formerly Twitter):

Remember when they plastered me all over international news saying I was a human trafficker and after 3 years of investigation, 4 house searches, every hard drive checked the Judge gave it back to Dicott saying there wasnt enough evidence?

I was in jail for this, now they say theres no evidence of crimes.

And after having my whole life analysed in an attempt to destroy my influence what came out? No sexual perversion, they couldnt even find a single girl to complain against me.

Im literally the cleanest person you can find.

No steroids, no drugs literally nothing.

Imagine any of these liberals having this kind of investigation the depravity that would appear.

I am very proud of the reputation theyve given me for anyone with a brain.

  saffuna: Yeah, right.
Nov-23-24  stone free or die: Here's a summary from the <NYT> about four days ago:

<<What happens next?>

A court in Bucharest in March said that the Tate brothers could be extradited to Britain, but only after legal proceedings in Romania were completed; the court ruled that the brothers could be released in the immediate term. The Romanian authorities have seized part of their assets, including luxury goods and cryptocurrencies. The brothers have appealed that decision, so far without success.

A date has not yet been set for the Romanian trial: Lawyers for the brothers have said that they will also fight that decision, which is not final. With the indictment returned for changes in November, prosecutors will soon decide whether to move again for a trial. In the meantime, they have been barred from leaving Romania, a judicial decision which is periodically reviewed.>

He's involved with both the Romanian and British judicial systems.

saffuna: I would be wary of accepting what a sleazebag like Andrew Tate says as the truth without confirming it.
Nov-23-24  dehanne: Andrew Tate would make a good Romanian ambassador.
Nov-24-24  stone free or die: Let's try to damp down the speculation and deal with the facts:

<Romanian appeals court has found in favor of influencer Andrew Tate this week, who is facing multiple charges in Romania, including human trafficking and rape.

On Tuesday, the Bucharest Court of Appeal accepted Tate's appeals and those of Tristan Tate, Manuela Naghel, and Luana Radu in their case against the Bucharest Tribunal's decision to advance their case to trial. The court cited significant irregularities in the prosecution's case and violations of the defendants' legal rights.

However, in the wake of the decision, misleading claims began appearing on social media, overstating the outcome of the appeal court's ruling.>

https://www.newsweek.com/fact-check...

I can understand <Andrew Tate> statements, but he's not in the clear yet. And this wouldn't be the first time a prosecutor has been reeled back (keeping in mind they often still win their case afterwards).

FSR: <Prosecutors have confirmed for the first time the full list of 21 charges Andrew and Tristan Tate will face when they are returned to the UK, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking.

The Crown Prosecution Service said that it had authorised the charges against the brothers in 2024, before an extradition warrant was issued to bring them back from Romania.

The two British-Americans are under investigation in Romania, facing a number of charges, which they deny - and the CPS said "the domestic criminal matters in Romania must be settled first".

The CPS's charging decision came after it received a file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police about allegations made in the UK.

The CPS said Andrew Tate, a 38-year-old influencer and former kickboxer, faces 10 charges connected to three alleged victims, including rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain.

Tristan Tate, 36, faces 11 charges connected to one alleged victim, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking.

The pair were both born in the US but moved to Luton in the UK with their mother after their parents divorced.

In recent years, Andrew Tate, a self-described misogynist, has built a massive online presence, including more than 10 million followers on X, sharing his lifestyle of fast cars, private jets, and yachts.

He and his brother were first arrested in Romania in December 2022, with Andrew accused of rape and human trafficking and Tristan suspected of human trafficking.

They both denied the charges and spent several months under house arrest. A year and a half later, in August 2024, they faced new allegations in Romania including sex with a minor and trafficking underage persons, all of which they deny.

Separately, the pair were detained in Bucharest in March 2024 after Bedfordshire Police said it had obtained an arrest warrant in relation to allegations of rape and trafficking.

<From US back to Romania>

According to the brothers' legal representatives, the UK allegations dated back to between 2012 and 2015. At the time of the arrest warrant, the Tates said they "categorically reject all charges" and were "very innocent men".

A Romanian court ruled that they could be extradited to the UK only once the separate proceedings against them in Romania concluded.

They were then released from custody. Prosecutors unexpectedly lifted a two-year travel ban earlier this year, after which the brothers travelled from Romania to the US state of Florida by private jet in February 2025.

They returned to Romania in March 2025, telling reporters that "innocent men don't run from anything".

The brothers say they registered with Bucharest authorities in a legal formality to demonstrate their compliance with an ongoing criminal investigation. Andrew did not say whether he would remain in Romania, but vowed to clear his name there and in the UK.> https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c...

FSR: <A civil case brought by four women against Andrew Tate is believed to be a legal first, a barrister for his accusers has said.

The women accuse Tate of rape, assault and coercive control between 2013 and 2015. One claims he threatened to kill her, another says he made clear he would kill anyone who spoke to her, and a third claims he convinced her he had killed others.

In written submissions, Anne Studd KC said she believed this was the first case of its kind in which it is argued that coercive control amounted to "intentional infliction of harm" - a legal concept similar to emotional distress.

Tate denies the claims, saying they are a "pack of lies" and "gross fabrications".

The women are seeking damages "arising from the assaults, batteries, and infliction of intentional harm", their civil claim states.

A case management hearing was held in London on Tuesday, which deals with preliminary matters and logistics.

The court heard that a trial could be held in early 2027, and that it could last three weeks.

Judge Richard Armstrong told the court the four women were "seeking damages likely to reach six figures".

Proving the intentional infliction of harm would mean the claimants could be awarded additional damages.

Coercive control, Ms Studd said, was "a form of grooming and manipulation where the victim becomes less and less able to respond in what might be perceived as a normal way".

She added that a victim "may not leave even if the door is open".

Vanessa Marshall KC, acting for Tate, told the court that they "accept in this day and age that coercive and controlling behaviour does exist", but that it was "really not the issue in this case".

The case concerns incidents the four women allege took place in Luton and Hitchin.

Two of the claimants worked for Tate's webcam business in 2015, while the other two were in relationships with him in 2013 and 2014.

Three of the women previously reported Tate to the police, but in 2019 the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided not to bring criminal charges.

Tate denies all the allegations, and argues that the women cannot now take legal action against him because too much time has passed, and emails, texts, and other potential evidence would have been lost.

His solicitor Andrew Ford previously said in a statement that the women's allegations "are vehemently denied and will be fully contested in court".> https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c...

This is not a rabbit hole you want to go down if you admired Emory Tate as a chess player.
