|Feb-18-05|| ||aw1988: His play is Lastin a long time, hopefully. |
|Mar-25-05|| ||WTHarvey: Here are some crucial positions from Lastin's games not shown here: http://www.wtharvey.com/last.html |
|Mar-25-05|| ||Benzol: <aw1988> LOL. OK if we're getting into puns how about Lastin, first out. |
|Aug-26-05|| ||lentil: lastin was russian champion in 2002|
|Mar-17-06|| ||Catfriend: I know I'm stealing a pun used long ago as a GOTD title, but - Lastin, first out:)|
|Oct-30-06|| ||BIDMONFA: Alexander Lastin|
|Aug-13-08|| ||whiteshark: Happy birthday, Sascha.
May your wishes come true.
|Oct-04-08|| ||DiscoJew: How bout this one, "You might out last him, but keep him away from your wife"
I just couldnt resist|
|Oct-05-08|| ||parmetd: lol benzol thats a good one. Amazing for a high profile GM this guy has no profile.|
|Apr-24-12|| ||lost in space: What happened to his rating between July and September 2011? He lost nearly 100 ELO points?! Does anyone knows why/what happened?|
|Jan-23-15|| ||Beholder: Chesspro reports that he died today. RIP.|
|Jan-23-15|| ||Beholder: Also here: http://www.chess-news.ru/node/17944
And somebody already edited his wiki page.
|Jan-23-15|| ||NBAFan: Really tragic news. RIP|
|Jan-23-15|| ||WannaBe: Way too young. =(|
|Jan-23-15|| ||plang: He hadn't played since 2012 - was he ill?|
|Jan-23-15|| ||Prugno: Amen. There is a very disturbing trend of strong and relatively young Russian GMs fading away and dying prematurely in the last few years.|
Vyzhmanavin, S. Kiselev, Chuprov, last year Kharlov, now Lastin... unfortunately I keep feeling that all these departures might be caused not only by natural factors but also by sadder situations such as depression, alcoholism or maybe even suicide.
|Jan-23-15|| ||plang: Unless you know what the cause of death was such speculation seems improper|
|Jan-23-15|| ||Illogic: <plang> He had played in a rapid event as recently as October, Note the rating changes in <lost in space>'s link|
|Jan-23-15|| ||HeMateMe: No one be 'lastin forever!|
|Mar-04-15|| ||perfidious: It was a surprise to learn of Lastin's passing just now.|
In the late 1990s, I recall his frequently finishing high in Russian championships, usually ahead of more widely publicised players, but not getting into the international arena very often.
