Jun-07-05   arifattar: Pity no one has commented on this page. Has long been the most visible of Indian players. Regularly writes columns in Indian papers. Has drawn with Spassky. Atleast his win against Miles should be added to the notable games.
Jun-07-05   arifattar: A quick glance of the database has shown the name of Adams as well amongst his scalps.
Jun-07-05   mandar: <arifattar> He his a promising player and so he is G.M and i think chessgames.com should make anote of it.
Jun-07-05   arifattar: <mandar> Who knows. You are never too old in chess.

  hitman84: Pravin Thipsay on Nisipeanu..

<Pravin Thipsay, the veteran GM from Mumbai who was playing in the Open tournament in Pune, held along with the Super GM event, also rates him highly. "I had the privilege of watching his game with Chanda live, as I had a quick draw that day. To me, that was the best game of the tournament. He was brilliant."

Nisipeanu, with all modesty, agrees. "That game made me happy. It's one of my best ever." >

  hitman84: Pravin Thipsay on Anand:

<a month later, anand was playing against a strong british grandmaster, mestel, a regular member of the english team. mestel was 100 rating points above anand and it was believed that the brit would easily win. however, when anand made his 22nd move, the brit faced inevitable checkmate. duration of the game — 2 hours 35 minutes. time consumed by mestel — 2 hours 27 minutes! after this stunning victory, the western press started referring to anand as ‘the lightning kid’. the chess world recognises four players as the geniuses of the game. paul morphy of usa from the 19th century, who was 100 years ahead of his contemporaries; jose raul capablanca, who became a world champion without even having a chess board at his home; bobby fischer, who found a way to break through the soviet monopoly without any support; and ‘vishy’ anand, who has all the qualities of the above mentioned without some of their drawbacks. it would not be inappropriate to say that he is the chess genius of the millennium.>

It's an archieved section so please bear with the no-caps, all intelligent kibitzers.

I guess the genius has finally proven that he has what it takes to be a true World Champion.

Dec-11-08   harish22: Praveen Thipasy was one of the greatest player india produced. He was the first player of international class that came out of the country. In the early 80's , before the coming of Anand, he was the main indian player. He won a gold medal for india in the Asian championship. He missed GM norms on multiple occasions by whiskers and during those time it was very very hard to get them. His win over Anand in 1984 with double bishop sac on g7 and h7 was beautiful. But lack of oppurtunities and change in time control cost him. Right upto mid 90's he was the second best indian player.
Dec-12-08   jaydes: <harish22> Sounds like Anand's double piece sacrifice against Ponomariov. I can't seem to locate the game in the database, do you have a link to it?
Jan-02-09   harish22: No i do not have a link to the game. Also it is not in the database. I have the actual game in an old copy of chess-mate. If i can find it then i will put the entire game
