 | | tpstar: The surprise of the tournament has to be Tigran Vartanovich Petrosian who won the crowd with his energetic play and dashing style despite being dead for 27 years. |

Apr-15-11 | | Birthday Boy: <tpstar> indeed the old petrosian was resurrected hahaha |

|
Apr-15-11 | | TugasKamagong: I thought they'd confused Tigran L. for Tigran V. but no, this is Davit G. Petrosian, a GM rated 2480. He's 3 days younger than Tigran L. but 5 years the latter's junior as a GM: Tigran L. got his title in 2004 or so, Davit G. in 2009. As for Karen H. Grigoryan, an FM rated 2463, he doesn't seem to have a page in cg.com. A dark star in this tournament might be Pontus Carlsson, if he can somehow get his name misspelled as Carlsen. |

Apr-15-11 | | uscfratingmybyear: What an embarrassment for this US based chess site. The Chinese and now the Dubai tournaments. The repressive Chinese, who lock up disidents and murder the opposition, have their tournament covered. And now Dubai, being built by slave labor, has an air conditioned nightmare catering to those that turn a blind eye to what is really going on there. I find it telling that none of the top tier players are there-they probably know it's damaging to their reputations to take part. So once again, like in the last Fischer-Spassky bout, chess is used by tyrants for publicity. |

Apr-15-11 | | shivasuri4: <uscfratingmybyear>,did you notice that a tournament was conducted in Nanjing,China last year or the year before that and many top players took part(including the then world no.1,Carlsen).Is that telling? |
|
Apr-15-11 | | uscfratingmybyear: shivasuri4 My point was the Dubai tournament and it's coverage. But if the top ten players in the world were there it wouldn't change the fact that Dubai is being built with slave labor. And if the top players were in China it would still be a repressive regime. More info on Dubai worker conditions can be found on BBC Middle East News, the photos are tough sledding. |
|
Apr-15-11 | | shivasuri4: Well,I was responding only to the second part of your post.I am aware of what you say,but then since there's nothing I can do nothing about it,I don't think too much about it. |
|
Apr-15-11 | | shivasuri4: And how is it an embarrassment for this website? They merely publish games they receive. We are chess enthusiasts here, not political wranglers. By the way,I hope you see some of the games from the Chinese Championship, especially those of Ding Liren. They are a breath of fresh air! |

Apr-16-11 | | HolyAvatar: We don't need activists in here. This website just relates chess games, hence the name. |

Apr-17-11 | | Wild Bill: The standings are wrong. Jon Luwig Hammer won in both rounds today and is tied for first. He has Black against Negi tomorrow (or today, depending on where you are). |
