Julio P Kaplan was born in 1950 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His family emigrated to Puerto Rico in 1963. He became an IM when he won the World Junior Championship in 1967 ahead of Raymond Keene, Jan Timman and Robert Huebner. In 1974 he came 2nd= at Los Angeles.

  nikolaas: He was indeed. In 1967.
Jun-08-05   trumbull0042: He programmed one of the Saitek tabletop chess computers, called, strangely enough, the Kasparov Trainer. Garry endorsed it and wrote a preface in the instruction booklet, but I doubt he had anything else to do with it.

  Caissanist: Kaplan was a friend of my Artificial Intelligence (AI) professor in college, and one day he came to lecture about the technical details of his programming for Saitek. It was pretty interesting, but it had nothing whatsoever to do with AI. He had the effect of reinforcing my belief that AI is a crock.
