ANDRES RODRIGUEZ VILA (born Dec-19-1973, 51 years old) Uruguay [what is this?] Andrés Rodríguez Vila learned the game at 4 years while he was watching his father playing against his uncle. He started his chess career at 10 years. At 13 years he beat the Uruguayan champion Bernardo Roselli Mailhe. At 14, he finished fourth in the World Chess Championship sub 14 (played in San Juan de Puerto Rico). At 17, Andrés became the Panamerican champion (under 20), and became the first International Master of Uruguayan chess history. At 18 years, he gained world prestige, after finishing fifth in the World Championship of his category, playing against the best players. In 1993, at 20 years, he settled in Argentina (where he lives today). In 1997 he became the first Uruguayan Grand Master. In 1998, he won Zone 2.5 (South American Zone) tournament that took place in Cordoba Argentina, 29th August - 9th. September 1998, qualifying him to play in the FIDE World Championship Knockout Tournament (1999), where he lost in the first round tiebreaker to the late Karen Asrian. Equal first at the 3rd Salto Sports Club Open Tournament held in September 2015 in Argentina. People from Latin America know the importance of the 1810 bicentenary, chessplayers of Uruguay too. None of the best players wanted to be absent.
