Feb-04-15 | | rogge: Carlsen avoids the perpetual, but might lose the game :) |
Feb-04-15
 | | plang: The possibilities are endless here - no way they have time to calculate much |
Feb-04-15 | | achieve: Completely irrelevant what the engines say here.
They do not talk, think, they are just programmed /calculation/evaluation monsters. Second, the basis under the calculations is entirely human induced and created, only to be sped up by engines as in calculators. Third, the horizon problem kicks in quite early, as the latest engines are pruning earlier than ever, in order to relay and flaunt a deep analysis of 23 Ply after 60 seconds, instead of after 3+ minutes. Some positions the human excells, most positions in the long term the calculating beasts excell. |
Feb-04-15 | | Absentee: <achieve: Completely irrelevant what the engines say here. They do not talk, think, they are just programmed /calculation/evaluation monsters.> So? How does this makes engine evaluations irrelevant? |
Feb-04-15 | | Nf8: <Naiditsch gets a perpetual, according to engines [...] Carlsen avoids the perpetual, but might lose the game :)> I doubt if that's the way Carlsen saw it, though ("avoiding a perpetual", that is). After 19...Rab8 (the recommended comp move) 20.Rxg7+ Kxg7 21.Bxf5 it might easily look to the human eye as a murderous attack by White; it's very tricky to make sure you're not simply getting mated. |
Feb-04-15 | | rogge: Whatever, <achieve>. This comp gets to 30+ ply within a minute. http://analysis.sesse.net/ |
Feb-04-15 | | achieve: exactly what I meant -- the number is hugely inflated, for a number of reasons; one is to sell the engine as the next better big thing, and sell it as representing much more than it really does. This goes back a long way, and Rybka programmer Vasik Railich was very candid in admitting to the misleading depths involving in luring in new and old buyers for the new products. This is all on record for anyone to review. |

Feb-04-15 | | john barleycorn: <rogge: Carlsen avoids the perpetual, but might lose the game :)> Just tell me when I should start singing the German national anthem :-). |
Feb-04-15 | | rogge: <Hosting and multi-PV analysis hardware by Studentersamfundet i Trondhjem> It's a University computer cluster, it's not for sale. Obviously. |
Feb-04-15 | | rogge: <john barleycorn: <rogge: Carlsen avoids the perpetual, but might lose the game :)>
Just tell me when I should start singing the German national anthem :-).> Naiditsch beats him all the time, doesn't he :) |
Feb-04-15 | | haydn20: With the exchanges on c6, MC may have rescued his draw. |
Feb-04-15 | | john barleycorn: <rogge> on regular days, he wins regularly. Jawohl. |
Feb-04-15
 | | plang: <With the exchanges on c6, MC may have rescued his draw.> All 3 results possible here |
Feb-04-15 | | Absentee: Maybe it's me, but I still don't understand what achieve is talking about. |
Feb-04-15 | | rogge: I'd say you better get ready soon, <jay-b>. |
Feb-04-15 | | rogge: <Absentee>, there are at least two of us, then. |
Feb-04-15
 | | keypusher: <john> Forgive my ignorance, but what is the German national anthem now? |
Feb-04-15 | | Absentee: Die Fahne hoch! Die Reihen fest geschlossen! |
Feb-04-15 | | haydn20: OOPS. I just saw 28 Nxe4! fxe4 29 Be6 and Black may be back in the soup. |
Feb-04-15
 | | keypusher: Carlsen's flag is flagging, I fear... |
Feb-04-15 | | Kudzi123: On magnus game if pawns are out of the game next thing exchange rooks game drawn. |
Feb-04-15 | | john barleycorn: Let's get used to it:

Feb-04-15
 | | plang: Carlsen, as usual, is outplaying his opponent in time scamble |
Feb-04-15 | | rogge: An exciting game, I have to admit. |
Feb-04-15 | | haydn20: Why I love watching humans play. White finds Nxe4 but has only 1 min to work out complications thrown at him by Carlsen--and can't do it. |
