sapfy: It looks like Khairullin is currently undefeated for 42 straight games.

His last loss was on the 26. of July in the 6. round of the Czech Open against Mikhailo Oleksienko. Since then he has played (according to TWIC), the Russian Championship 1st League in Tomsk (nine games, including victories over Zvjaginsev and Motylev), World U-20 Ch. in Armenia (13 games), Essent Open (nine games), and the currently ongoing Russian Super Final (8 games), and of course rounds 7-9 of the Czech Open.

His current rating gain is 30.2, not including the ongoing Russian Ch. which probably won't be counted for the January list.

Peligroso Patzer: <sapfy: It looks like Khairullin is currently undefeated for 42 straight games.>

And now (two days later) he has lost two straight closely fought endgames. His loss today against Inarkiev in K+R+P vs. K+R (I Khairullin vs E Inarkiev, 2006) could have been averted if Khairullin had been one tempo faster getting his King in front of Black's passed b-pawn.

Feb-04-08   Troller: As far back as July 2003, the then still 12-year-old Khairullin was rated 2445. Today, 4½ years later, his rating is 2544, which is of course better than most chess players, but rather disappointing considering his pre-teenage strength. To compare, Carlsen had 2450 on his last rating list before becoming a teenager.

However, Russian players have a tendency to break through a little later than Ukranian or Norwegian ones. Right now, Ildar Khairullin is playing in the Moscow Open; maybe this will be his big tournament.

May-06-09   Troller: Status 15 months after my last comment: Ildar now has 2606 on the rating list and rising. I'll check back in 2010 to see if he has crossed 2650.
