A B C Players 21st Century EvRob
Compiled by fredthebear
--*--

Life is not a game but it's full of players (and pawns)

This file was one of Fredthebear's originals that outgrew itself a couple times over. Large collections of games by the same famous chess player were eventually given their own separate file.

Fredthebear's advice to subscribers is to create several small but distinct collections by individual player, opening, ECO code, tournament, era, book author, pattern or piece technique. Do not have large collection dumps of such variety like this. Of course, this still serves a certain flexible purpose for me... no need to delete it.

The A players and David Bronstein are currently being removed into their own collection unless they played another A, B, or C player.

The games of world champions Alexander Alekhine and Jose R. Capablanca are in their own folders. In no way does this collection come close to doing them justice.

Some Romantics... Anderssen, Blackburne, Charousek, and Chigorin have moved together to another folder. So did Alapin, Bird, and Colle. However, if these fellows played one another, the game is possibly included in here.

Most of inmate Claude Bloodgood's games are in the Grob section. He is one-of-a-kind story in itself.

Contemporary greats Anand, Aronion and Carlsen have moved to another folder for the most part. Those collections are nowhere near complete but they would not fit in here. Again, if they played another A-B-C player, that game is included in here.

Games were once grouped in alphabetical clusters by name, but so many players made that difficult to locate all the various clusters quickly -- too much scrolling up and down hundreds of games just to accurately place one game, so most are now intermixed by the year that the game was played. Using the year (or ECO code) number requires no scrolling for proper placement within the file. Modern players... the recent years... are on the bottom half of this list. Several games by Fabiano Caruana are down there, but he also has his own collection now.

Once again, because of space limitations, no games this century will be kept in this list. Adams and Aronian can be found in the A players collection. Anand has his own collection, as does Carlsen. These fellows play soo many recorded games nowadays that they're not going to fit in here.

Thank you sneaky pete, Prasha, Phony Benoni, Fredthebear, Gottschalk.

The underhanded Chessgames operator who vandalizes FTB's collections as a devious hobby has struck this page on multiple occasions. It no longer resembles the original, another source of evidence.

Heinrich Heine: Der Atlas

Jun-23-08 myschkin:
Jeg ulykkelige Atlas! En verden,
all smertes verden må jeg bære,
Jeg bærer det utålelige, og briste
vil mitt hjerte i min kropp.
Du stolte hjerte, du har jo selv ønsket det!
Du ville være lykkelig, uendelig lykkelig,
eller evig elendig, stolt>

"After we have paid our dutiful respects to such frigid virtues as calculation, foresight, self-control and the like, we always come back to the thought that speculative attack is the lifeblood of chess." — Fred Reinfeld

"Age brings wisdom to some men, and to others chess." ― Evan Esar

"There is no jewel in the world comparable to learning; no learning so excellent both for Prince and subject, as knowledge of laws; and no knowledge of any laws so necessary for all estates and for all causes, concerning goods, lands or life, as the common laws of England." ― Sir Edward Coke

"Without integrity and honor, having everything means nothing." ― Robin Sharma

"I am no longer cursed by poverty because I took possession of my own mind, and that mind has yielded me every material thing I want, and much more than I need. But this power of mind is a universal one, available to the humblest person as it is to the greatest." ― Andrew Carnegie

"Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

"We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us." ― Winston S. Churchill

* Tata Steel 2024 was an incredible tournament: https://www.chess.com/news/view/202...

https://theweekinchess.com/chessnew...

It's worth noting that after winning eight previous Tata Steel tournaments, Magnus Carlsen skipped out this year after not winning last year, ducking the young guns who have closed the gap. If it's a classical time control, MC prefers to play the same old faces that he's always beaten who are intimidated. These hungry teenage stars and twenty somethings are too much work now.

Wikipedia article: Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2023

https://www.chess.com/news/view/202...

On the 24th of January, at the 8th round of Tata Steel Masters 2021 Andrey Esipenko became the 1st teenager ever to beat the World Champion Magnus Carlsen in Classical Chess. 16-year-old Anish Giri had beaten Magnus back in 2011, but at that point Carlsen wasn't a World Champion.

Teach the children not to cross in the middle of the street. Go down to the corner crosswalk, stop and look both ways. Proceed only when it's clear and safe to do so. Never assume that a driver is clean and sober, paying full attention and sees you crossing. That's what Jerry does: https://heavy.com/sports/2017/08/je...

1 Corinthians 13 King James Version

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

slaw1998: In my spine there sends a shiver
When a player sends his pieces up the river
Into loose en prise encapture, enrapture,
Does it to my heart receive it well
Yet other players bring me down
Their defense sends my attack the other way around And Tal and others would be quite displeased
Like I, to have the attack no hope of being released

So I'll go on shedding pieces
With combos, like a magic stall,
And hope that some day
I can beat them all.

Q. What did Clinton say when asked about the scandal? A. I was trying to keep my campaign promise by putting more women on my staff.

"Do the things that interest you and do them with all your heart. Don't be concerned about whether people are watching you or criticizing you. The chances are that they aren't paying any attention to you. It's your attention to yourself that is so stultifying. But you have to disregard yourself as completely as possible. If you fail the first time then you'll just have to try harder the second time. After all, there's no real reason why you should fail. Just stop thinking about yourself." — Eleanor Roosevelt
