15.<WORST FANIRMOD>

User: Juiceica

Jan-14-16  zanzibar: When I googled <FANIRMOD> I got one hit only:

<Stefania Raimondi Pronunciation - Pronounciationof www.pronounciationof.com/b/how-to-pronounce.../s-
tefania-raimondi

STEFANIRMOD (letter E meaning in this name); Sensual and enthusiastic you love to have freedom. Falling in love comes easy to you and kinda happens often.>

(Why is <CG> mangling this link?

www. pronounciationof.com/b/how-to-pronounce.../stefa- nia-raimondi)

SwitchingQuylthulg: <zanzibar: Why is <CG> mangling this link?

www. pronounciationof.com/b/how-to-pronounce.../stefa- nia-raimondi>

The problem is that 1) the link is long enough to trigger CG's line break algorithm and 2) CG expects links to start with "http://" (or "https://"), rather than with "www".

CG automatically breaks very long "words" into multiple parts because they could otherwise be wider than the screen, which would result in all sorts of ugliness. Normal links, starting with "http://", do not trigger line breaks; special code applies to such links, and since they are shortened for display purposes (e.g. http://www.pronounciationof.com/b/h...) extra line breaks are not needed.

Non-standard links that start with " www" are in most (though not all) cases still recognized as links; however, they are not shortened for display purposes and can therefore trigger a line break.

Jan-14-16  TheFocus: I nominate User: Big Pawn for Most Informed.
Jan-14-16  mbvklc: I'd like to nominate Levon Aronian and Rados³aw Wojtaszek for players of the year. The second one did a pretty cool stuff, winning against world no 1 and 2, and the first one is extremaly hot. I'd like to nominate the following games for game of the year: 1. W So vs Aronian, 2015 2. Navara vs R Wojtaszek, 2015 3. W So vs Ding Liren, 2015
Jan-14-16  valiant: I nominate <ljfyffe> for Best Historian.
Jan-14-16  zanzibar: A song and dance hackfest on links.

<Switch> I would just like a simple escape to turn off all <CG> EZ processing - so I can be assured my link can be inserted and work.

That's an issue that has arisen numerous times (usually involving punctuation marks in a url).

That said, I don't understand why, if a <http://> link trigger should be handled any differently than a <www.> trigger.

I'm far less concerned with the text displayed for the link, so long as the actual link points where I want - I don't care so much if the display text is shortened.

Let's try with http:

http://www.pronounciationof.com/b/h...

and now without:

www.pronounciationof.com/b/how-to-pronounce-name-
s/stefania-raimondi

and now with the cut-and-paste of link, as I originally did from the google page (which was a mistake)

www.pronounciationof.com/b/how-to-pronounce.../s-
tefania-raimondi

I now realize this link is wrong. So it was mangled by google not <CG>. But, the above shows <CG> not treating it like a link. But if I include all the cut-and-paste text, as I originally did:

<Stefania Raimondi Pronunciation - Pronounciationof www.pronounciationof.com/b/how-to-pronounce.../s-
tefania-raimondi
STEFANIRMOD (letter E meaning in this name); Sensual and enthusiastic you love to have freedom. Falling in love comes easy to you and kinda happens often. >

It shows up as a link. But <CG> does indeed mangle the already mangled link when I think it shouldn't.

Let me hand edit the url to include the http:// prefix:

<Stefania Raimondi Pronunciation - Pronounciationof http://www.pronounciationof.com/b/h... STEFANIRMOD (letter E meaning in this name); Sensual and enthusiastic you love to have freedom. Falling in love comes easy to you and kinda happens often. >

And now it does utilize the correct mangled link.

Again, this amount of convenience posting is difficult to understand, and may even be counterproductive.

I need a consistent, straight-forward procedure to include any valid url in a link.

(Do you really want me writing a treatise for each of these special cases?)

<zanzibar: Do you really want me writing a treatise for each of these special cases?>

Not here, no; very much off-topic. On any other page... still no. The current system works as long as you know the ropes; any URL starting with "http://" can be turned into a functional link with a bit of percent-encoding.

Yes, many forums offer more powerful ways to link, but this is a site where that power would be abused and corrupted.
