Daniel, ceegee et al?! There's nearly 1700 Carlsen games in this pgn file which means there's around 150 games that won't be in your database, so I thought id post this here for you in case you want to add the missing ones into yours? I wouldn't know how to submit them seperately, but just delete the post if you don't want it.. ✌
Ps.. Are you voting for me in the funniest category in the Caissers, Daniel?? I joke I just kid, please please forgive ☺ |

As it leads to inconsistencies in the player database, I would suggest to erase the <Dr.> from player names. I came across this often, e. g. Dr. Julius Perlis, and as it is probably impossible to label every genuine Dr. as Dr. (e. g. you'd have to change both Berthold and Emanuel Lasker's names), it appears to me to be best to drop it entirely. It's not even directly connected to their chess career. |

Now I willpost more pictures from the 'Wiener Schachzeitung', but here is the link to the FAQ regarding copyright: http://anno.onb.ac.at/faq.htm - Most important seem <An allen Inhalten, die von der ÖNB ins Netz gestellt werden, macht die ÖNB kein eigenes urheberrechtliches Verwertungsrecht geltend. I'm not sure about the legalpoints about the rights of third parties and the newspaper-google part, if that is relevant. and

 | | chessgames.com: <Karpova: <chessgames.com> As it leads to inconsistencies in the player database, I would suggest to erase the <Dr.> from player names.> That's very reasonable. We can call them "Dr." in player biographies but there's no real compulsion to include it in the player record. On the other hand, what about titles of nobility? I am inclined to continue calling Prince Dadian as "prince", Count Isouard as "count", Duke Karl as "duke", and so forth. |
|
| Jan-04-14 | | Karpova: <chessgames.com>
The <Prof.> could be dropped for the same reasons: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... I think that the titles of nobility are a different matter as they are not so much being earned. I would also like to keep them, if only for Morphy vs Duke Karl / Count Isouard, 1858 to remain recognizable. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Karpova> Great work tracking down old photos. <Es wird darauf hingewiesen, dass Rechte Dritter für jede Form der Nachnutzung individuell zu klären sind.> My German is a quite rusty but I think that means "Note that the rights of third parties must be individually cleared for any form of reuse." Note that only really applies to their photos 1923+ as anything before that is internationally regarded as public domain. I bet we can acquire blanket permission to use ANNO's Wiener Schachzeitung photos for our purposes, especially if I can contact an English speaker over at ANNO. If not, I can attempt to compose a very clumsy German email. |

There is very little constructive. Bringing it back to life just invites people to rekindle extinguished flames.> I'm looking forward to seeing it again. <But I'm never 100% sure about these things. I would like to see nothing more.> Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. <Let's revisit this subject in 2114.> Fixed it for you. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Admins>
Following an earlier post by another member about posting the winners of last year's Caissars in the profile, I'd like to suggest even more than that. Why not provide a blue hyperlink in your profile that says "past winners" that navigates to a <Caissar history page> that lists all the past winners from every year? I see three good reasons to do this.
1. The Caissars are an important (and fun) part of cg.com site history, a history that should be duly documented. 2. This page would also provide a means to acknowledge the longstanding contributions of the "original runner" of the contest, and of the long suffering <wannabe> who ran it for some years after that. 3. This page would also help contextualize the debate raised last year, and this year by <Mark Finan>, about the issue of the same small number of people winning the awards year after year. If we could see exactly who won what and when, we could more usefully cast a net for as yet unheralded candidates worthy of the award. Finally, such a page might also be included on the "FUN PAGE OF STATISTICS EXCEPT FOR the 'most popular forum' category which was ruined, and duly deleted, because of a horrendous spam war between <brankat> and <chessmoron> and one other person." ChessGames.com Statistics Page |
|
Jan-05-14
 | | chessgames.com: It's a very good idea, somewhat like our ChessBookie Hall of Fame except we'd only have to update annually instead of quarterly. Plus, it would give a kind of permanence to the award rather than it being merely a round of applause. We'd be willing to put something like that together, except for one problem: where can we see a list of winners previous to 2013? If somebody could put those data together get it to us, we could have a fun time presenting it. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Admins>
Thanks for such a quick reply.
I think that <wannabe> might have all or much of that data saved? He could be the best person to ask. As a back up, I have a suspicion that <Switching Owls for Thugs> might well be able to pull all that data out of his fabled hat. I try not to think too much of what he has access to on the internets, but I believe it is "a lot of stuff." |
