Attacks a2/a7, b2/b7 and c2/c7 ECO B by FTB
Compiled by trh6upsz
--*--

These games feature a piece capturing a queenside pawn or two, for better or worse, and queenside checkmates. This queenside pawn removal may or may not be materially important to the eventual outcome of the game. (The pawn capture sometimes serves as a self-inflicted displacement of the capturing piece leaving it out-of-bounds.) Again, the pawn capture on the queenside may have little or no impact on the outcome.

Many chess players are well-versed at attacking the f2/f7 and h2/h7 pawns on the kingside. Fredthebear's intention was to make a similar comparison on the queenside as a study tool. These games certainly have a different feel to them as compared to the kingside mating attacks.

This particular collection of ECO code B games is a collection split. The original file got so large, it had to be divided to make room for more games.

Fredthebear will continue to add additional games as they cross his wandering path. FTB's collections often start out with golden oldies from way, way back and some miniatures, then re-boot with longer games below. As always, a few misplaced mouse slips occur in any large collection. We don't kick 'em out until spring cleaning.
