Nov-13-04 | | aragorn69: LOL <acirce>. BTW have you seen Kramnik's anouncement on chessbase? If what he says about his medical condition is true, he might have been seriously ill during the Brissago match (not just the flu like it was thought)... :-(( |
Nov-13-04 | | acirce: Sure I saw that. It's worrying. Too bad he doesn't (want to?) say what kind of illness it is. I understand that this may look suspicious to some, but if it is certified by doctors it really shouldn't. <Then I became sick. In several games I felt so sick, that I could hardly play – physically. This was the case in game 9, in which I had an extra hour on the clock, but simply could not sit at the table.Something serious?
I would rather not talk about this, I will only say, that in the future, I doubt I would let this happen again...> http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... |

Nov-13-04 | | azaris: <Kramnik might have been seriously ill during the Brissago match> It might have been contagious. I understand several kibitzers got violently ill at the conclusion of several of the games. |
Nov-13-04 | | aragorn69: <several kibitzers got violently ill at the conclusion of several of the games> This is childish. They do not protest now against Karpov's inumerable "boring" games against Korchnoi and Kasparov. Internet has spoiled us all to the degree that we forget our chess world championship history. The finals have almost always been tense and prone to a minimization of risk - for different reasons - but from both players. |
Nov-13-04 | | tsj2000: That was a good one AZARIS!! LOL .U should be a great epidemiologist, and u found the cause why we were all falling ill during the K-L world championship match!! |

 | | tamar: Karpov leaving probably helps Morozevich and Svidler. Moro has never beaten him. Now there are two K's gone, and Kasparov must wonder why he is even playing so close to his finals match with Kasim. I am praying he sticks and this is the last big shocker. |
Nov-14-04 | | azaris: I am dissapointed with the unimaginative quips of the anti-Kramnikians. Where are all the jokes about his illness? Here, I'll start: I hear the doctors have diagnozed Kramnik's illness. It's just an allergy. Turns out, he's allergic to Kasparov. |
Nov-14-04 | | billchat: Here's my joke:
-The world championship re-unification process. |
Nov-14-04 | | billchat: I think Kramnik has got a mystery blood related illness. Note: he didn't get poisoned. |
Nov-14-04 | | acirce: Karpov WILL play after all, or maybe not.
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... |
Nov-14-04 | | yoozum: he flip-flops more than john kerry. |
Nov-14-04 | | Dave Murray: Dave Murray: The situation with Karpov is still unclear. I hope he plays though. <Q: Who is the best chess player of all time, Kasparov or Bobby Fischer?> What a dumb question! How can you compare Fischer with Morphy or even Philidor? You can't! Comparing people from different times doesn't make sense to me. |
Nov-14-04 | | yoozum: if only people could have realized that circa august...so we wouldn't have to have had that all-consuming argument. thank god i was never involved in that. |
Nov-14-04 | | Dionyseus: <Yoosum> Or it could be that it was just a rumor. In his recent interview, he made no indication at all that he would be dropping out of the tournament. |
Nov-14-04 | | yoozum: i was talking about this:
"What a dumb question! How can you compare Fischer with Morphy or even Philidor? You can't! Comparing people from different times doesn't make sense to me. " |
Nov-14-04 | | pkjohn146: I agree with yoozum's last post- the best you can do is ask, who is the best player of a given generation. Comparing Morphy to Kasparov is like comparing apples and oranges. We don't know how kasparov would do in Morphy's day without the influence of Botvinnik, Alekhine, etc., and we don't know what Morphy would do with additional influences- nice to wonder though. |
Nov-14-04 | | pkjohn146: oh, sorry, I thought "dumb" was a little harsh. |
Nov-14-04 | | Dave Murray: It looks like Karpov is not gonna play :(.
Maybe not "dumb", but simply a "bad" question? |
Nov-14-04 | | WMD: Something strange is afoot. Another betting scandal? |
Nov-14-04 | | Dionyseus: Indeed, something is strange here. On the 12th he made no indications at all in his press interview that he was going to drop out, then all of a sudden he drops out the next day? |
Nov-14-04 | | WMD: And it also throws suspicion on Kramnik's withdrawal due to a mystery illness. |
Nov-14-04 | | yoozum: "All is not well. I doubt some foul play."
hamlet seems applicable yet again. |
Nov-14-04 | | WMD: I fail to see what Denmark has to do with the Russian championship. |
Nov-14-04 | | acirce: And we already knew that something is rotten in the state of Russia. |
Nov-14-04 | | aw1988: <It might have been contagious. I understand several kibitzers got violently ill at the conclusion of several of the games.> They did. None of the games went past 10 moves. :) |
