Leearn Checkmates on the 3rd/6th Outer File
Compiled by trh6upsz
--*--

Site under construction by Fredthebear. The collection was peeled off my larger collection of checkmates. Yep, FTB deliberately missppelledd the title. There are some interesting kingside attacks to be found in here.

These checkmates feature Na6/Nh6, Ba6/Bh6 or Qa6/Qh6 for White. (Checkmates by Black feature Na3/Nh3, Ba3/Bh3 or Qa3/Qh3.) Such a piece on the outer file usually blockades the backward pawn and effectively limits the opposing king's mobility.

The original Boden's mate w/Ba3# features criss-crossing bishops. Boden's mate is included but not the intent of this section. A broader scope is intended.

Most of these checkmates do not include a queen sacrifice as a precursor to mate. She often gives supported mate, or cuts off the escape so a minor piece can give mate.

General Arrangement:
English (A27) Miniatures demonstrate fianchetto pattern on 6th Sicilian Miniatures demonstrate fianchetto pattern on 6th Some Special games; mixed mating patterns
Bishop and/or Knight on the 3rd/6th rank delivers final check Boden's Checkmate 70
Double Rook Sacrifices 80
Arabian Mates 95
French Defense mates 300-319
King's Gambit mates 330-339
Unlabeled 500-800
Various by ECO code 1100-1600

* Game Collection: Checkmate: Checkmate Patterns This link has a good, concise collection of diagrammed checkmate patterns by name. The new reader may wish to consult it initially to the point of memorization.
